"Responded within 5 minutes of my request to HomeAdvisor. Came immediately to my home to look and give me a quote to remove a tree. They returned the next morning and did the job in less than 3 hours. I am very happy with the results."

Small jobs welcome

"I am very impressed and happy with the work they did. They were here when they said they were going to be here to do the job and the work was done quickly and efficiently. They did a thorough job at taking out what they said they would take out. They also did a good job at cleaning up when they left. Very pleased and we will reach out to them again for future work."

"B&N Enterprises Nicholas (Nick) Freeborn did a great job. June 16 we had a storm 100 MPH winds our tree on peak of second story metal roof. Tree had to be lifted off which was done professionally and clean up was excellent and other damaged trees where taken down with no problem in a safe manor. Would have him do more work in the future."

"I had 4 smaller (20ft) tall pines cut down, then a large dead tree along with a very tall (30ft) pine tree cut down. All the wood was taken off the property, it was cleaned up nicely, then I wanted all those stumps grinded a later date so he came back out when I asked him to and grinded all the stumps up and cleaned it up nice once again. I have recommended him to a few neighbors already, had trees cut before and this team takes the belt on being the best in my opinion. I’ll keep recommending them and will continue to use them for future projects"

"This company was on the ball. Very very reasonably priced and said the project would take 3-4 days. He was done in 2 1/2 days and the work he did was just amazing. The property looks amazing. The cleanup was beyond what I expected and the price was lower than any other estimate."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Some trees, such as silver maples, birches, sycamores, and scotch pines, shed their bark naturally. If your tree is not one that does this, it might have fallen prey to pests, fungi, or diseases. It could also simply be suffering from an extreme weather change, such as a snowstorm or heat wave. If you’re still stumped, consulting with a pro can help you diagnose your tree’s specific problem.

The safest way to cut down a tree is to make sure you’re completely prepared and have done all the necessary safety checks, including double-checking your equipment is in good working order, you have plenty of clearance to fell the tree, you’re wearing all the safety gear, and you have a partner to help you (who should also be wearing safety gear).

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

Any tree that needs to be pruned should be pruned to remove dead branches at least once a year. You may need to prune far more often if you’re trying to maintain a certain shape or to save a tree that suddenly becomes infected.

Hiring an arborist costs around $900 on average, with prices ranging from $250 to $2,500 or more. Some arborists charge an hourly rate, typically between $100 and $350 per hour. The final cost depends on several factors, including the type of work, the number of trees, accessibility, and whether you hire an independent arborist or a larger tree service company. When hiring, you should also consider their experience and insurance coverage.

Below are some estimated costs for common arborist jobs:

  • Small tree removal: $300 to $500

  • Large tree removal: $500 to $2,000 or more

  • Tree health assessment: $150

  • Trimming a small tree: $75 to $200

  • Trimming a large tree: $150 to $400

  • Dealing with invasive species: $150 to $1,000 or more
