"John went the second mile and then some.  He did all the shopping for us and never charged us for his time or gas.  This meant a lot as John's knowledge of what was needed for the job saved us from making mistakes in our purchases, or just not getting all that was needed.  He saved us countless hours of going back and forth.  His prices are excellent; I don't really know how he does it.
He is so extremely pleasant to work with.  He's friendly, but soft-spoken.  He is and honest and ethical; and gives you 100% of his time while on the job.  If you purchase 6 hours from John, he will give you all six hours.  Don't be afraid of being charged time while John eats lunch; he won't do that to you. 
Additionally, he is careful and competent.  I was especially grateful for his ability to make suggestions.  They were all good and highly valued (things I just wouldn't have thought of).  His work is excellent quality.  I could not be more happy having found and hired John.  Having someone to your home to do work can feel uncomfortable and intrusive.  Having John over is a pleasure.  I will truly miss him when the work is finished.  The deck is almost done and it's beautiful!
