"John DeWitt of DeWitt Construction is amazing. He is helpful in decision making, knowledgeable, efficient and competent. He answers all questions and keeps his promises. I hired him on a Sunday. He said all the roofing materials would be here on Wednesday and he would start work on Thursday at 8 am which he did. The next day the metal roof on my house was 99% finished. He was short a small amount of roofing. A few days later it was delivered. He was here when it was delivered and finished the job including cleaning up an hour later. He is good! His workers are even better. They are an awesome crew of 5-6 men who are extremely capable and efficient. Each one knows his job and they all work in coordinated unity. There s no music. Noise is a minimum. They are careful and respectful of property and do an excellent job. I m very satisfied. When I need any construction work done in the future my first call will be to DeWitt Construction."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

You may become so frustrated with the look of moss on your roof that you contemplate whether to clean or replace your roof. Fortunately, you don’t have to go as far as replacing it. After cleaning the moss, you can use a chemical solution to keep it away. For further protection, trim branches that overhang the roof, as fallen seed pods and leaves on the roof allow moisture to collect, encouraging moss growth. Consider adding zinc-coated flashing to the roof, too. As rain washes across the zinc, it leaves zinc particles behind that inhibit moss growth.

Underlayment is used between existing shingles and a new metal roof to prevent friction and wear from the shingle granules on the underside of the metal. The underlayment also helps prevent water intrusion and allows expansion and contraction without wearing away at the roofing material.

Manufacturers, insurance companies, and municipality regulations are phasing out three-tab shingles. Because of their short lifespan and lack of durability compared to other roofing material types, manufacturers are leaning toward better products, and cities and insurers are starting to require better building materials overall. However, 3-tab shingles are still for sale, and some roofing companies still install them.

Chimney caps have a solid top but perforated sides so smoke can exit safely. If rain or snow falls downward, chimney caps can protect the chimney’s interior. Just note that if rain or snow blows in sideways, there’s a higher likelihood it will enter the chimney—but it's not often a cause for concern as long as you have a cap.

Yes, roofers can repair and replace roof trusses. In fact, because trusses are such an important part of your roof’s structure, it’s best to have a roofing contractor deal with a damaged truss. If you try to fix the problem without the right skills or knowledge, your roof could sustain further damage or even collapse.
