"I would highly recommend Kimball & Kimball Companies. They recently cut down and removed a tree in my backyard. They were professional, courteous, timely, efficient and careful. The yard looks so much better now. Thank you for doing such a great job at an affordable price!"

"After my Father's unexpected passing, my Mom has been left with all the house duties that her used to take care of for her. I decided to find a service to help for the winter with snow removal and I couldn't be happier with these guys. Every time it snows they come out to clear the snow automatically and they do a great job. I plan to have them help this summer with lawn mowing also."

"Great! Received a quote the day I called and was able to schedule for a week later, weather dependent due to it being December. We are not sure our Mom's windows had ever been professionally cleaned. Our Dad would wash the outside but he has been gone for almost 13 years. There was a heavy film on the outside which made them look like the seals were broken, they were not. They now sparkle, cleanest they have ever been! They also discovered the front gutter was loaded with years of pine needles despite hiring someone to clean them out just this last October. Guess they missed this one and would not come back since it had been over 30 days. Emerald cleaned them and flushed out the downspouts also. Even those that were done in October. Really nice people and they did an awesome job."

Snow Removal questions, answered by experts

Snowblowers come in three different sizes: first-, second-, and third-stage blowers. Each additional stage is larger with higher intakes, more powerful, and has more gear options.

A first-stage blower, also called a snow thrower, is usually best for snow 6 to 8 inches or below. Electric snow blowers are usually only available in this size. If you regularly get snow that’s well above six inches, consider a second-stage snow blower. If snowstorms dump 2 to 3 feet of snow repeatedly during winter, you need a third-stage snow blower to tackle it.

When it comes to deciding whether a two-stage or three-stage snow blower is better, you must consider the amount of snowfall you get, the size of the area, and your budget.

A three-stage snow blower is more efficient at clearing higher volumes of snow quicker and removing ice build-up. It’s ideal for commercial use and removing snow from large areas. Make sure to compare various types of snow removal equipment to ensure you purchase the one that is best for your needs.

Yes—in fact, it’s an important step in how to start a snow blower. Allowing the engine to idle for a few minutes prior to using a snow blower helps it reach its optimal operating temperature, which gets the fuel running properly, improves its performance, and helps prevent stalling during frigid weather.

While it’s less common than on other kinds of roofs, yes, ice dams can form on metal roofs. Metal roofs, particularly those with snow guards installed, can still accumulate ice at the roof edge, although ice dams on metal roofs are less likely to cause roof or interior damage than on traditional asphalt shingle roofs.

Snowblowers are some of the best tools for snow removal because they remove large amounts of snow quickly without bodily harm or damaging your deck. If your snowblower can fit on your deck, it’s a good first line of defense to remove snow quickly and easily. If you don’t have a snowblower, a plastic shovel with a rubber blade is another good choice to remove snow on a deck.
