"In May of 2023 I hired All County Maintenance to inspect and repair my chimneys. Peter was amazing - the work included fixing some broken chimney bricks, replacing the old mortar between all bricks, and installing brand-new stainless-steel... Then I had him back in August to mortar my whole chimney. Amazing job."

"The whole experience from beginning to end was pleasant, including them having to come back because they did not have the proper chimney liner on hand. They set up chimney caps on my main chimney and wood burning stove, as well as a new chimney liner in the main chimney. This was a new home I purchased and the previous owners did not have these set up. ADV NY was responsive, courteous, and able to put my mind at ease with their great work. Would definitely recommend."

Chimney Sweep questions, answered by experts

Smoke smell and odors typically will not go away completely on their own, especially once the particles have penetrated porous materials like walls, floors, ceilings, and furniture. While airing out affected items can help the smell subside over time, it often lingers for months or even years. To effectively remove stubborn smoke odors, you should combine several methods. Start with a thorough deep cleaning and deodorizing using substances like baking soda or activated charcoal. Air purifiers can also help capture airborne particles. In severe cases, you may need to replace heavily damaged materials. If the smell persists after repeated treatments, consider hiring a professional smoke damage restoration company for assistance.

You may need to replace drywall because of smoke damage. If the drywall is covered in soot, you may be able to clean it, but it will require a lot of time and effort. You could spend hours cleaning the drywall only to find there is more damage and it needs to be replaced anyway. It’s usually easier and safer to remove the smoke-damaged drywall and replace it.

To get rid of the smoke smell in a microwave, scrape off any burnt food residue and throw it away. Next, warm a cup of water in a microwave-safe container for three minutes. Then, dip a microfiber cloth into a mixture of water and a couple of drops of dish soap and wipe down the inside of the microwave. Dry the inside of the microwave with a fresh cloth and let everything air out for three hours.

Yes, a bowl of vinegar can absorb smoke. If you want to use this method to reduce the smoke smell in your house, all you have to do is leave a bowl (or multiple bowls) of white vinegar out overnight. Alternatively, you can use bowls of baking soda, coffee grounds, or activated charcoal.

Just about anything that can damage your roof can damage a solar panel. It’s common for panels to sustain damage from hail or falling branches. Critters can chew through the wires. Snow and heavy rainfall can cause additional wear, along with extreme temperatures, which can degrade or stress the individual components. Even the UV rays that create electricity slowly damage your panel over time.
