"Wilson pretty much built the deck and erected the Gazebo as if it were his own. He listened to my concerns and answered all my questions. Wilson is probably the hardest working contractor I have ever seen. If I have another project, I will not hesitate to contact Wilson and his crew."

"This is the second review I've written for John and his crew but I am happy to recommend them AGAIN! (Somehow the first review was never posted.) We had been wanting a deck/porch on our front entrance for some time but had been frustrated in finding a builder who responded to our messages. John contacted us in mid June and the work was completed by the end of June. Working with John was amazingly easy and productive. Communication was open and timely. He works very quickly and always showed up when promised, if not earlier. We especially appreciated his responsiveness to our questions and flexibility when we had special requests. I can't evaluate the literal cost vis a vis other contractors because we have no basis of comparison, but the value of the completed project exceeds our expectations. We hope he is available when we have other projects!"

"Kenny did an excellent job with design and build of the garage. He had many ideas that were critical to maximizing the utility of the space. Work was accomplished within the timeframe estimated. Overall cost seemed reasonable. Lastly he did a nice job aesthetically matching the design of the garage with the house. Would use him again."

Garages questions, answered by experts

The main con of a heated garage is that if cold air comes into your garage and hits warm tools, it could lead to rust. You may also have to deal with the slush and run-off from any snow or ice that comes into the garage from vehicles, leading to more maintenance and upkeep.

An average two-car garage size is about 580 square feet. A common dimension for a two-car garage is 24-feet deep by 24-feet wide, as measured by the interior width. However, the manufacturing of larger vehicle sizes means many homeowners want to build bigger garages. It’s not uncommon for a two-car garage to be 30-feet by 30-feet.

While it’s possible to replace your own garage door, it’s a dangerous DIY job, and the work is best left to professionals. Garage doors can weigh hundreds of pounds and are quite bulky, so maneuvering them into place for installation is a tough job. Additionally, working with high-tension garage door springs is dangerous, especially if you install them incorrectly. The labor for garage door replacement costs around $400 on average, which is a small price to pay to guarantee your safety and the security of your home.

Wood, steel, fiberglass, and aluminum are among the top building materials for a garage. Wood is highly customizable, naturally insulative, and durable in mild climates but can be expensive. Steel is lightweight, low-maintenance, and cost-effective, but it’s susceptible to rust. Fiberglass is low-maintenance and doesn’t shrink or expand in changing temperatures, but it can become brittle and crack from prolonged high winds and sun exposure.

Unlike steel, aluminum isn’t susceptible to rust and is low-maintenance, but its ultra-light weight makes it less durable than some materials, and it’s susceptible to saltwater damage, making it a poor choice for coastal homes.

In most cases, you do not need planning permission to change a garage door to a normal door, unless a specific restriction is present on your home’s deed. If you’re changing the door because you are trying to convert the garage into a living space, you will need to work with building control for proper signoffs to ensure your conversion meets all of the necessary construction standards.
