"After purchasing an eight camera exterior Lorex DVR system from Costco, I wanted professional installation with hard wiring on a two story home in Dayton. Austin did a great job scoping the work over the phone asking questions to determine my needs, explaining the installation and took time to answer questions. His explanation really sold me on his technical expertise and experience with what I needed. Quote was provided verbally and through email at a reasonable price. Great communication over the phone and email! The owners Mike and Austin were my onsite technicians showing up right on time as scheduled. They were friendly and approachable with needs and offered great ideas along the way. The camera angles were better than expected. They worked six hours non-stop with attention to every detail, crawling through attic insulation and on ladders inside and outside ensuring to protect walls and floors as they worked. They took time to vacuum their work area throughout the install. Worked great together as a team! Went above and beyond to ensure no camera cable wires are visible on the exterior or at the junction box inside connecting to the DVR with a clean, professional installation. They wanted to ensure I was happy with camera angles on the DVR before concluding. The final amount due was as quoted with no surprises or hidden costs/fees and quality workmanship. Very happy with what I paid for. Remember the saying, "you get what you pay for" if thinking about cheaping out with Geek Squad. I'd highly recommended Northern Nevada Low Voltage and would use them again for future needs."

"It went great!  From Travis the sales person to Noah the installer I couldn't have asked for a more professional and through team to deliver my home security needs.  We just bought a new house in a neighborhood that's up and coming but there's still an element that we want to protect our home and valuable from.  Security One helped us find a system that we could monitor while we're away and that would make my girlfriend feel safe when I'm not a home.  We highly recommend them especially Travis and Noah.  Ask for them by name!

Home Security Systems questions, answered by experts

A deadbolt differs from a regular lock in its design, construction, and security level. Regular locks are typically used for interior doors, such as for bedrooms and bathrooms, and provide minimal security. They are easy to install and use, often featuring a simple locking mechanism on the inside. In contrast, a deadbolt is one of the most secure locks you can install on an exterior door. Its internal construction is designed to withstand significant force, adding a crucial layer of security that can deter intruders. While deadbolts may be more expensive and complicated to install, they are cost-effective for the security they provide and are built to hold up to wear and tear.

False alarms happen, and they could be due to a problem you need to troubleshoot, like faulty wiring, a mistaken setting, or the system needing an update. Turn off your system by disconnecting its power supply (both the battery and transformer) and give the manufacturer a call to see what they advise.

Thieves can open almost anything with enough time and the right tools, but they also prefer easy targets that are unlikely to get them caught. Forcing open gates is loud and difficult, and to be able to open one electronically requires extensive knowledge of the system, which most thieves don't have. Electric and other security gates are great deterrents because the thief will move to an easier target. If the thief is determined to enter your property, they will most likely find a different entrance point.

Depending on your needs and wants, investing in a security door can be well worth the cost. Now that you know the pros and cons, you can decide if it’s a purchase that makes sense for your family. If you’re ready to have one installed in your home, look into security door installers in your area.

To prevent false alarms, motion detectors need proper placement and settings. Start by installing them away from pets and windows where outside movement could set them off. Adjust the sensitivity settings to reduce the likelihood of it detecting minor motions. Consider using dual-tech sensors, for example passive infrared (PIR) and microwave technology, to improve accuracy and reduce false alarms. And don’t forget regular maintenance—cleaning the sensor and checking for any obstructions can go a long way in making sure your detectors run smoothly.
