"Radon gas mitigation - We hired Safe at Home Environmental because the radon level in the house we were purchasing exceeded safe levels. Brian Jacobs was willing to answer all our questions, he and his crew were extremely professional, prompt and willing to educate us. The equipment installed is very quiet and blends well with our house."

"I can only comment on our initial meeting. Tysan showed up on time and was courteous, respectful, and attentive. From our previous phone call, the objective was to evaluate the entrance gate and driveway. Like many homeowners, I think I walked the property and showed Mr. Westplans for mechanical rrooms bathroom additions , a huge roofing project, new proposed plumbing, 2 new fireplaces, and a 100 foot long shed on the other part of the property. So, while Tysan and South Mountain Industrial Services showed up to estimate a "whole bunch of apples," I rambled on for several hours about "a whole bunch of oranges." Tysan remained very patient and attentive and after the initial consultation, sent me a detailed proposal to start with a days work, maybe two of clearing huge boulders and the removal of dozens of trees and stumps. Personally, I have used a Bobcat and a backhoe, however, the work done recently on my property would have taken at least a week. Mr. West can thread the eye of a needle with this heavy equipment that is needed for my big project. Definitely, I want Mr. West involved with the future project regardless of the capacity. Tysan West is a General Contractor, and I look forward to the tentative GO that we agreed upon verbally to begin the permit, pad and metal bldg. at the end of May, beginning of June. Tysans punctuality, courteousness, and detailed estimates on Proposal is Professional at least, unlike most of the prima-donna Santa Fe contractors I have encountered the last 15 years, which is at best. By the way...that whole morning spent consulting and reviewing the work and somewhat layout, was with no pressure and with no charge."

Asbestos Removal questions, answered by experts

Since DIY asbestos removal isn’t the best option to save money, there are other steps that you can take to help cut costs when dealing with this project. After speaking with your asbestos removal expert, discuss if encapsulation is an option. If it is, you can save between 15% to 25% on overall project costs over demolition and disposal. In addition, when speaking with your professional, discuss if there are any tax credits available for your removal project. Finally, check with your homeowner’s insurance to see if any removal costs might be covered. However, be aware that this is usually only applicable if the asbestos is due to a covered incident, like a tree falling into your roof.

If asbestos is found, it is crucial to consult with a professional. They will provide recommendations for appropriate abatement actions, which may include safe removal, containment, sealing, or enclosure. All actions must be planned and executed in accordance with local regulations for handling asbestos.

Asbestos-containing materials are not easily affected by water and do not disintegrate or dissolve when exposed to it. However, porous materials can deteriorate due to water exposure, leading to the release of asbestos fibers into the air. The settling of asbestos fibers can also occur as water makes them heavy, which reduces the risk of airborne exposure, though future disturbance of the materials could cause risk. Wetting asbestos-containing materials does not constitute safe removal, and the proper handling and disposal of asbestos materials should be left to professionals.

Follow recommendations for removal or remediation to ensure a safe living environment.

Asbestos siding can be dangerous, but it doesn't necessarily pose a health risk if it's in good condition and left undisturbed. The danger comes from inhaling asbestos fibers, which can be released if the siding is damaged, deteriorating, crumbling, or disturbed during remodeling or repairs. Exposure to these airborne fibers can cause serious, life-threatening diseases like asbestosis (lung scarring), mesothelioma (an aggressive cancer), and other lung cancers.

If your asbestos siding is intact, the general recommendation is to leave it alone. However, if it's damaged or you plan to renovate, it's crucial to handle it safely. Due to the significant health risks and the difficulty of containing the fibers, it is not recommended to perform any asbestos work yourself. Instead, you should hire a professional asbestos removal company to inspect, repair, encapsulate, or remove the material. The presence of asbestos can also negatively impact your property's value.
