Barbed wire, horse fence, pipe fence, high tensile, split rail, dowel rail, chain link, privacy picket, wood panel, jack and rail, chicken coops, and electric fence solar and standard. We also hand build and install custom gates. Rocky Mountain Fence was established in the spring of 2011, and the owner Jonathan Montoya, a Pagosa Springs native, has been building fence in Pagosa Springs and surrounding areas since 1998. We take great pride in our work and we aim to please. However, even more important than our work, is our customers who we value at the highest level. The lifespan of a picket fence largely depends on its material. Wooden picket fences typically last 10 to 15 years with regular maintenance, while vinyl and composite picket fences can last 20 to 30 years or more due to their resistance to weather, rot, and pests. Metal picket fences often exceed 30 years, especially when properly coated to prevent rust or corrosion.

The depth of your post hole depends on your post length. If you decide on a two-rail fence, the posts are likely 6 feet long. You want your hole to be at least 1/3 of the post length. In this case, your post hole should be two feet deep.

If you opt for a three-rail fence, the posts will typically be 7 feet long, meaning your post hole should be 28 inches deep.

That said, it is possible. Sometimes the post will lift right out of the concrete. If not, you can use a high-lift car jack to try and lift the pole out of the footing. Put the new post into the same hole and backfill it with fast-setting concrete. Keep in mind, this won’t work well for metal posts.
