"Mark listens and pays attention to detail. ...I've had a lot of things done to my homes that I don't have the skills to do, and he was absolutely the best that I've worked with..timely...focused...and grade of work was outstanding. I have neighbors that have have sons that build and they want Mark and his crew to build for them instead of their sons...that's how good he is..I don't plan on having anyone else complete my jobs other than Mountain Man Maintenance because I trust them..and these days it's hard to find. Some companies don't even call you back....he called me back and came that day because I was leaving town the next day...excellent from contact to completion. ...10 stars.. Steve D"

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Pressure-treated decking may be worth it if you want a natural, insect- and rot-resistant decking material that will last for decades with proper maintenance. As such, it’s a much better option than untreated pine. Alternative wood decking materials like cedar and redwood tend to be less durable and more expensive. Some homeowners prefer composite decking, which is a low-maintenance alternative to wood but is also more costly.

Routine cleaning, sealing/staining, and inspection prolong deck life and appearance.

The best material for your deck depends on several factors, including your budget, location, aesthetic preferences, and the level of maintenance you’re willing to do. Wood decking, like redwood, ipe, cedar, and pine, lasts the longest, but it’s more expensive and requires more upkeep than composite and synthetic decking.

Yes, you can attach a deck to a mobile home, but it’s important that the work be done correctly to avoid the potential for major damage to your home. Many building codes require that any additions to mobile homes—including decks—be either freestanding or have their own support structures. Getting permits may require submitting the home's original floor plan, the proposed floor plan, framing details, and more.

Before installing any materials under the deck for removing moisture, you should perform some prep work on the ground. Work the dirt under the deck to create a grade away from the home. A grade of at least six inches for every 10 feet works well. Do not leave a gap between the dirt and the home’s foundation where water could pool. Once you or a contractor regrades the dirt under the deck, you then can add materials over the top.
