"Proud Work Ethics, LLC did a great job of power washing and staining my deck. Although we had changes to our original plan, Bob went with the flow and made sure I was satisfied with the outcome, Bob is a real professional, whom I feel goes out of his way to satisfy is customers. I would hire Bob again and highly recommend him to others."

"Eric refinished our garage door and back porch steps which were in rough shape. He also painted the trim and shutters. It was a big job and required a lot of sanding, scraping and putty work. We are very happy with his work. He takes his time, does careful prep and paints neatly. No slops on the windows. The garage door and steps look like new. We will use him again. He is honest and trustworthy. A week later we asked him to come back and refinish our 60-year-old knotty pine kitchen cabinets. He did a fantastic job on him and they look like new now"

Small jobs welcome

"I have hired them back to do so many jobs for me. They know how to fix pretty much anything. They completely renovated my dog daycare, put walls up, painted interior, exterior, put a door in where a concrete wall was, all new windows, painted my deck, enclosed the deck so my dogs wouldn’t get under it and dig anymore. No matter what I hire them for, they exceed my expectations!"

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Oxygen bleach uses hydrogen peroxide as a base and won’t harm wood when using it as a cleaner. On the other hand, chlorine bleach breaks down wood at the cellular level and causes irreversible harm. Although you may not see immediate damage to wood after exposing it to chlorine bleach, its strength and integrity are now compromised.

Wood stains last anywhere from two to five years, depending on exposure to the elements, your local climate, the type of stain, and the surface it’s on. For instance, vertical surfaces last longer than horizontal surfaces. Some types of woods, like dense hardwoods, will require a recoat yearly, as they are too dense for the stain to absorb. In any event, apply a recoat every 2 to 4 years. As for storage, a can of unopened stain can last up to 5 years, though results may vary.

In most cases, sanding an old deck before staining it is necessary to achieve a decent finish. If your old deck has a relatively new stain finish on it and you're only doing touch-ups, you can generally skip the sanding part. However, if your goal is to make the deck look and function better, sanding first is a must.

Wood stain does go bad, but it will last in the can for between three and six years, provided you use proper storage techniques. Storing wood stain in open containers or in extremely low or high temperatures will cause your wood stain to become unusable much more quickly. Water- and latex-based wood stains typically last for just two to four years, while oil-based wood stains can last for three to six years.

It's okay to walk on a newly painted deck after about four to six hours as long as the weather has been dry. Be sure to wait at least 24 hours before you place any outdoor furniture or grills on a freshly painted deck, though.
