"Working with Smith Power Group, Inc. was a very rewarding and mutually beneficial experience. The owner, Carlton, sat with us and explained the entire process and answered all of our questions. The office kept us informed concerning the necessary paperwork, permits, etc. On the day of installation the crew arrived on time and proceeded to install our generator without issues. We highly recommend SPG."

"Ken was hired to put a sub-panel in the garage, but he notice that rain was getting in the main panel. I hired him to replace the service coming down the side of the house, through the meter box and then the main panel and sub-panel. He did a great job. He was clean and neat and he worked around my work-from-home needs to electricity. He did the service and main panel on a Saturday and I had minimal power disruption. He is friendly and knowledgeable. I would definitely hire him again."

"Fantastic work! They installed under-cabinet LED lighting in our kitchen, and it has completely transformed the space. The lighting is crisp, bright, and perfectly placed to illuminate the countertops and backsplash. The team was prompt, clean, and extremely professional throughout the process. Highly recommend!"

Generator Install questions, answered by experts

Carbon monoxide emissions aren’t only dangerous to human life, but they also harm our planet. While natural gas generators emit lower levels of CO than other fuel sources, there are still ways to reduce emission levels. For example, shop around for an eco-friendly generator that complies with current emission standards. Also, make sure your generator is serviced regularly to avoid CO buildup.

While diesel is relatively stable, it won’t last nearly as long as propane and you may have to replace it if it sits unused for too long. Diesel can sometimes struggle to work efficiently or start engines during especially cold weather, so it’s not the best choice for every climate. Compared to fuels like propane and natural gas, diesel generators tend to be noisier and create more exhaust, which isn’t always ideal for home use.

If your home already has a grinder pump and you’re still noticing issues (like frequently clogged toilets and sinks), it could be time to upgrade your grinder pump. Start by checking your existing horsepower. If there are four or fewer people living in your home, using a 1/2-horsepower grinder pump should be sufficient. Larger households should consider investing in a 1-horsepower grinder pump to maximize wastewater removal efforts.

Yes. You can connect your home back-up battery to a generator with its designated charger. Be sure that the output of the generator matches the input requirements for the battery for best results.

Yes, in most municipalities, you will need a permit to install a permanent home generator, including emergency backup, partial-home, and whole-home models. Because these installations involve significant alterations to your home's electrical system and produce exhaust fumes, local governments often require a permit or inspection for safety purposes. A generator permit typically costs between $50 and $250, depending on your location. Your electrician or certified installer can usually handle the permitting process for you, but you will be responsible for the cost. It's a good practice to confirm with your installer that they will pull all necessary permits before work begins.
