"Bill and his crew were fantastic! Bill was always quick to respond to any questions I had and kept me updated about the project timelines. His crew demo’d walls in my bathroom, put up new sheetrock, spackled, taped, painted and also installed a new floor. Fantastic workmanship! Will definitely hire them again for my future projects. Highly recommend Advanced Interiors!"

"We recently hired Family Paint and Drywall to complete some painting and drywall work in our basement. Kevin, the owner, was easy to communicate with and provided pricing quickly after our first meeting. The crew was friendly, tidy and professional. They completed the job a day early and left our house as clean as they found it. We are so happy with the finished product and we will be using them again!"

"I found David and Trav Construction on Thumbtack, and I’m so glad I did. Finding honest and reliable contractors can be difficult, but David exceeded my expectations from the start. He sent a team of professional workers who completed the job efficiently and with great attention to detail. The project was expected to take two days, but they actually finished everything in just one day without sacrificing quality. There was one small detail regarding the wall texture that wasn’t completed exactly as I had envisioned. However, it’s located at the very bottom of the wall and is hardly noticeable, so it did not impact my overall satisfaction with the work. Communication throughout the project was excellent. David was professional, responsive, and kept me updated every step of the way. His team was knowledgeable, helpful, and clearly experienced in what they do. In fact, I’ve already hired Trav Construction for another project and am just waiting for my materials to arrive before they"

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Whether you need a drywall anchor depends on the specifics of your project, particularly what you're hanging and where. You do not need a drywall anchor if you can screw or nail the object directly into a wooden stud, as the wood provides sufficient support and stability. However, if there are no studs in the location where you plan to hang the item, you should use drywall anchors to ensure it is securely supported. For very lightweight objects, like small pictures, adhesive picture hanging strips can be a suitable alternative to anchors.

Most load-bearing walls are exterior, though they can also be interior.

Mudding drywall is a DIY-friendly project, but patience and practice are required for perfection. If you’re working in a highly visible area and want the best possible finish, hiring a professional drywaller is worth the cost. Pros have the tools and know-how to ensure a smooth surface with fewer sanding sessions and less cleanup.

The tool you use to sand plaster will depend on the size of the project. If you’re just working on a small section of your wall to get rid of an uneven spot on the surface, hand-sanding might work. However, for larger projects, a drywall sander can make a huge difference when it comes to both time and elbow grease—and an orbital sander can help for detailed areas such as around ceiling fans.

Yes, it matters which side of drywall you use. One side is smooth, and the other is rough. The smooth side should be facing outward, toward the room, while the rough side should be hidden and facing the studs and framing of the house. The smooth side will be easier to apply tape, joint compound, and, later, paint to.
