"⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent Work by Sebastian – Jersey State Insulations We recently had insulation work completed by Jersey State Insulations, and Sebastian and his team did an outstanding job. From the beginning, Sebastian was professional, knowledgeable, and very easy to work with. He took the time to explain the process, recommended the right insulation for our space, and made sure everything was properly sealed and installed. The workmanship was clean, efficient, and done with great attention to detail. No shortcuts — just solid, quality work. Sebastian was punctual, respectful of our home, and left the area clean after the job was finished. We’ve already noticed an improvement in comfort. I highly recommend Sebastian and Jersey State Insulations to anyone looking for reliable and professional insulation services."

"Can I give them a 10 for value for the money? Dave, the owner, was great. Unbeatable price and they did a great job. I'm actually shocked by what a difference it makes. My house had no insulation in the walls and the furnace ran constantly. Now when I touch the walls, instead of being ice cold, they are room temperature, and the furnace barely runs."

"Good service.  There was one minor glitch which Howard's crew corrected immediately when an air conditioning duct disconnected allowing some insulation to fall into the room below.  Although some dust should be expected with the finished job, they were relatively clean and did their best to minimize dust.  This was important because of asthma in the family.  Howard saved us money by recommending a different attic door baffle than we had purchased (and then returned).  Energy costs to heat and cool the house have decreased since the completion of the job."

"Joey and his team are terrific.  This is the second time I have hired Federated to come and do insulation. The first time was approximately 2008 and it was to insulate my roof.  This time when Joey returned, I mentioned in passing as we were talking about the work I needed done in my basement that I still got some drafts in the top floor.  He immediately offered to go up with his infrared camera and see if they missed spots the first time.  He acknowledged that because I have a flat roof that slopes in the front, they weren't able to get to certain areas from the top of the roof and offered to come back (at no cost) to insulate the parts of the roof that they missed the first time -- but this time from inside through the ceiling.  I hired them to do the basement job, and good to his word, he and his team started on my top floor and spent a considerable amount of time filling the ceiling with insulation and then patching the area to match the existing stucco.  Next, they started the basement job.  I stood by to see how they worked and am very impressed.  They are a good team with clearly many years working together.  I asked if they could create certain holes to fill insulation in areas that I suspected there might be gaps.  They were willing, ready and able to work with me and comply with my requests.  Toward the end, Joey asked that I look at a job he just completed in the gas room (I wanted gaps filled with insulation to prevent gas from coming through my floorboards into my living room).  He had done a good job, but I saw some additional areas that were of concern to me (not necessarily a problem, just being a little OCD) and asked that he address it.  Even through everything was already back on the truck, he complied.  The results?  I am very pleased with the service, quality of the materials, professionalism of staff, and Joey's expertise.  One additional thing, Joey identified a problem in my boiler room that he suggested I fix immediately.  I called my local chimney guy who said that Joey's assessment of the problem was 100% correct, and the chimney guys came to fix the issue at the same time that Joey and his men were here.  They were able to coordinate nicely, work on their respective areas, and left the place neat and clean.  I was told that the work performed had a life-time guarantee, and I believe it.  So, I don't usually go on and on this effusively about work done in my home, but when someone goes above and beyond, I like to recognize them for their efforts.  Job well done, Joey.  Many thanks you and your team!

Drywall Insulation questions, answered by experts

You’ll want to inspect your plaster walls for signs of damage before painting. If you notice soft spots, deep cracks, bubbling, or areas where the plaster is crumbling or pulling away from the wall, it likely needs repair. While small hairline cracks are common and likely cosmetic, you should address larger issues before painting to ensure a quality, smooth finish.

This depends on how much plaster is applied and in how many layers, but a decent estimate is around 150 square feet. If you are applying only two coats on a small wall, there is a chance you may only need one or two gallons for the entire project. If you are plastering a large living room wall with high ceilings, using one of the more involved techniques–like Scagliola–that requires several coats, expect the project materials costs to add up quickly.

Vinegar and bleach are effective options for removing mold from drywall. Vinegar is a better choice if you have a smaller mold issue while bleach is best if you have a larger mold problem. If the area you're cleaning has limited ventilation, using vinegar would be a better option. In that case, you could mix vinegar with baking soda to remove more stubborn mold growth.

Although they have similar applications, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Their primary differences lie in their composition, consistency, and ideal use cases.

Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it thicker than joint compound. It dries quickly and is easy to sand, which makes it ideal for small wall repair projects like filling nail holes or patching minor damage.

Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum. It is primarily used for large-scale projects, such as taping and finishing the seams on newly installed drywall. It tends to shrink more than spackle and can be more difficult to spread.

While both products can be used to fill small depressions and cracks, spackle cannot replace joint compound for taping and mudding new drywall. Conversely, you can often use joint compound for small patching jobs typically done with spackle.

You should wait at least 24 hours for drywall mud to dry before sanding or applying another coat. However, the exact drying time depends on several factors, including the thickness of the application, room temperature, humidity, and the type of compound used. Thicker layers, or projects in high humidity, may require 48 hours or more. Lightweight compounds tend to dry faster than heavier, all-purpose ones. You'll know the mud is ready when it feels completely dry and firm to the touch and has changed to a consistent light color. Sanding too early can cause smudging or gouges, so patience is essential for a smooth finish.
