"I was very pleased with the focused attention to detail and professionalism displayed by the two technicians. After performing the work, they discussed the condition of the fireplace and future conditions to keep an eye on as the unit continues to be used. "Ylber (Jimmy) and his nephew who came to work were both very professional, courteous and honest. I had called them since I had noticed couple of shingles coming off the roof. Jimmy advised that roof needed some repairs as the rubber coverings around the flashings were completely worn out and there were quite a few shingles missing. Also recommended painting the chimney covering rather than replacing the entire cover due to rust which would cost lot of money. Very please with the work and would definitely recommended them to others."

"We were hoping to upgrade our fireplace to gas only and upgrade the look but knew we needed a chimney inspection and sweep first. We had another company come out and they quoted us an astronomical price in order to get the chimney in working condition and said they could not even do a sweep unless we did the work that was quoted. We found Select Masonry Construction LLC on Angi Leads. Called that morning and asked a few questions and was able to make an appointment for that afternoon. Gary and his brother  came and went over what needed to be done to get the chimney in working order and was also able to provide a catalogue so we could pick out finishing pieces. Gary was extremely honest and straightforward and prices were very reasonable. It took a week to get the items in stock and installed. We were shocked at how clean and expeditiously the work (including chimney sweep) was performed. The final product is amazing! We will certainly be recommending Select Masonry Construction to our friends. Thank you!"

Fireplaces questions, answered by experts

No. Pellet stoves are specifically designed to burn manufactured wood or biomass pellets. Attempting to burn other materials, such as regular firewood or paper products, can damage the stove, compromise its efficiency, and even pose safety hazards due to inconsistent combustion and increased emissions. It's crucial to follow manufacturer guidelines and only use pellets that are specifically recommended for your pellet stove model to ensure safe and optimal performance over its life span.

A chimney liner is held in place by a top plate and attached top clamp, both of which should be included in most chimney liner kits. The top plate seals to the top of the chimney flue and attaches directly to the liner. This not only holds the liner in place but supports its weight in the chimney.

In general, it will take about 90 minutes to burn the creosote sweeping log by itself, allowing it to work its magic. This may be longer or shorter depending on the conditions of your chimney.

Like any other household appliance, electric fireplaces can wear out after about 10 to 20 years. With more frequent use, the parts will wear out quicker, and you may get just 7 to 10 years out of a well-loved electric fireplace. Fortunately, electric fireplaces come with a lower upfront installation cost compared to alternatives like gas, so you can install a replacement for less.

The time required for a chimney inspection depends on the inspection level. A Level 1 inspection typically takes between 45 minutes and two hours, with an average of about an hour and a half. A Level 2 inspection usually takes less than two hours. A more in-depth Level 3 inspection can take up to five hours, or even multiple days if it requires removing materials. The total duration also depends on the chimney's size, condition, and how long it has been since its last inspection; chimneys with severe damage will require a longer inspection.
