"I learned the most important lesson from this project-it is vitally important to hire designer before hiring contractors. Lighting by Design is not only a expert on lighting but also a designer, an exceptional designer for remodeling. They are so honest and caring service provider that they did not hesitate to tell us upfront if anything was not right for us. We are extremely happy with their services and care. "Watts-Up workers were on time, courteous, clean and thorough. I had purchased their offer of a panel replacement for $1,000. It was done very professionally. In addition I asked for a couple overhead light installations. These were done cheerfully and at a reasonable cost. I highly recommend their services."

Lighting questions, answered by experts

If half of a string of Christmas lights is out, it is likely because of a single burned-out, loose, or broken bulb within that section. Long strands of lights often contain more than one circuit, so when one bulb fails, it can cause the entire circuit (or half the strand) to go dark. To fix this, inspect the unlit section and test each bulb to ensure it is tight and functioning properly. Replacing the faulty bulb or repairing a damaged shunt will typically solve the problem.

Professional repairs involve diagnosing issues, replacing components, rewiring, or repositioning fixtures to restore optimal performance.

Inspect for burnt-out bulbs, secure connections, and protect from water exposure to maintain functionality.

The cost to repair outdoor lighting typically ranges from $100 to $400. The final price depends on the severity of the damage, the specific issue, the type of lighting system, and the parts needed. Some repairs are priced per fixture, averaging $100 to $300, and there may be additional fees if the lighting is difficult to access.

While most general electricians can repair lamps and light fixtures, it is often better to hire a lamp repair specialist. Many electricians prefer larger jobs, such as fixing electrical systems or relocating fixtures, and may not offer lamp repair services due to the small scale of the work. Additionally, some lamps, particularly antique models, require dedicated expertise that a general electrician might not have. A lamp repair specialist will be familiar with various types of fixtures and can provide a more dedicated service. If you have already hired an electrician for a larger project, you can ask them to look at your lamp, but for a standalone repair, a specialist is typically the best option.
