"Atticare did a thorough evaluation of the home. Because the soffits were in disrepair, there was a pest issue. Atticare did a great job coordinating with the roofers. The old insulation was removed and the area was inspected for pests, cleaned and sanitized. They returned after the repair to make sure all was sealed, and installed the new insulation. They also helped lay down some plywood for some flooring in the space as an extra. Before doing their work, they laid down material to protect the floor and removed everything cleanly. They were efficient with their work and I was pleased with the job they did. The job was priced as quoted with no surprises. However, removal is recommended if the old insulation is compromised by water damage or pests. You should also remove it if you plan to install a different type of insulation, like switching from roll or batt insulation to spray foam. At a minimum, blown-in insulation lasts 20 to 30 years. Cellulose and sheep’s wool come from natural materials, so they likely max out at around 30 years. Fiberglass and rockwool feature artificial materials that boast lengthy lifespans, up to 50 years, or even longer in some cases. As always, this timeline assumes you don’t run into any issues, such as flooding or mold, that shorten the lifespan.
