"I hired Al to remove wallpaper from my upstairs hallway, downstairs foyer, and stairwell. The job turned out to be much bigger than we originally thought because behind the first 2 layers of wallpaper was paneling, which Al removed, and then behind that were 2 more layers of wallpaper! Walls then needed to be skimmed, primed, and then painted, along with ceilings and wood trim. Al and his assistants transformed my very outdated space into a fresh and cheery one. I felt comfortable having Al and his assistants in my home for the duration of the project. Al is a very personable man who cares about his work and cares about making his customer happy. He demonstrated flexibility in working with my schedule and kept me updated throughout the project. I will gladly hire him again for another home improvement project."

"He is very professional. I would definitely recommend him. The only thing I can say is that he doesn't speak fluent English but we were still communicating very well. Everything was finished on time. He was always answering the phone when I had questions which is important for me because I've had people who would disappear. He never did that. He did a perfect job. There is nothing that I can complaint about, absolutely zero."

"Perfect! Tim and Joe did an excellent job! These guys really look at the detail of their work and craft. There was cutting corners. They remove locks to paint around doors, removed window cranks to paint the windows right, removed and cleaned ceiling fans to get the job right. They really cleaned up the drywall to make it look new. Our ceiling is 20 foot high and skylights that go another 8 feet and ceiling looks as smooth as a baby's butt. I could go on and on. One more thing they helped us hang a picture that we could never do ourselves. They friendly, funny and work really hard! Bottomline our room looks beautiful and we love it!!"

Wallpapering questions, answered by experts

Accent walls can feel out of place or distracting if not well designed. Accent walls that don’t fit in with a room’s style can feel jarring or overpowering. Some accent wall styles can also feel dated, but fortunately, it’s easier to update a single wall than an entire room.

It’s possible to hang your own wallpaper, but the process is tedious and potentially frustrating, and it can be challenging to get seams to line up and look clean and professional. Plus, depending on the type of wallpaper you’re installing, using too much or too little adhesive could cause damage to your drywall or plaster, peeling, and bubbling in the final product. It’s usually a better idea to hire a professional wallpaper installer to do the work for you, as the relatively low cost is justifiable, if only to avoid damage to your walls.

While some people are confident in their ability to replace concrete by drilling out the broken pieces and replacing them with bagged concrete, it’s possible to run into snags that make hiring a professional worth it. Trying to level concrete slabs can require special equipment, which can be pricey to rent and tough to operate. It's also crucial to contact your town's municipal office to ensure you are allowed to take on the project without a permit.

Painting over wallpaper is an efficient way to cover it if it’s in decent shape. Before painting over wallpaper, make sure the surface is clean and smooth. You may have to remove minor problem areas, such as lifted seams or small peels, with a sheetrock knife or putty knife. Add a latex- or oil-based primer to keep moisture at bay before painting. You’ll likely need two coats of paint to cover the area.

There can be too much of a good thing when it comes to accent walls, so avoid creating one in every room in your house. Some rooms, like bathrooms and kitchens, don’t naturally lend themselves to accent walls, so it’s best to skip them there. Of course, your home should reflect your own sense of style, so if accent walls in multiple rooms appeal to you, there’s no hard-and-fast rule forbidding it.
