"It went AWFUL!!! Worst contractor we ever hired. Full of lies and excuses .Here is a short story of the year+ I have wasted trying to regain our deposit back from Mr Cox. I have been in contact with the local police, Attorney General's office and the Better Business Bureau. ALL of which have done NOTHING-just letters. We gave him a check for a large sum to procure the hardwood. It's been a year + no floors and no deposit returned. He told the Local Officer our money was spent and didn't have money to return to us. He keeps telling me he will return it , but words without actions are meaningless. And unfortunately this is someone more than 1 Neighbor suggested. You just never know who you are going to hire for a project. If this has happened to your family please reach out to the Attorney General's office about this matter. Power in numbers. I'm aware from 1 other reviewer he has done this before. In November he told us the Brazilian Cherry for our floor would be delivered soon and the installation will begin. On December 5 he claimed the distributor would not have the wood until December 16, and stated he could request a refund from the distributor if that is too late On December 22 he said he had to leave the country for a situation with his family. He indicated he could cancel the order and request a refund. On December 28 he stated the wood order would take another 2 weeks to arrive, at which point we requested to cancel the project for a refund. Late February we reported the incident to local police, who contacted Mr. Cox. At this point we were informed that Mr. Cox did not order the wood and did not have the funds to pay us back. Since then he has only re-iterated claims that he intended to pay us back when his business picks up again. Lawyer's response is just another deadbeat contractor."

Concrete Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, all basement floors crack in response to the natural settlement of the soil around them and from concrete shrinkage as it cures, and you’ll see hairline cracks as a result. However, you should keep an eye on your basement floor to see if cracks continue to lengthen or widen or show signs of water intrusion. In any of these cases, the problem is likely not settling or shrinkage, and a professional repair is necessary.

Yes, you can live with a cracked foundation—in fact, most people do. Virtually all foundations crack from normal settlement, and while settling cracks benefit from sealing to prevent water and moisture intrusion, most aren’t an issue. If you have structural cracks in your foundation, it might be safe to live in your home for some time, but you should address them immediately to prevent structure collapse and major property damage.

It depends on the severity of the damage, lasting from a few days to several weeks.

New constructions need time to “settle” and sometimes, small hairline cracks occur as a result. Larger horizontal or “stair step” cracks, however, are usually a sign of a deeper, more severe issue. It could indicate an issue with the soil beneath the home, a problem caused by an overgrown tree, or another problem.

Whether or not repairing your foundation is worth it before selling depends on the extent of the damage, the cost of the foundation repair, and your timeline for relocating. If the damage is major or structural in nature, chances are you’ll sell at a higher price if you take care of the problem beforehand. You should consider the cost of the repair first, though, as laying out thousands might not be possible with your budget. Additionally, if you’re in a rush to relocate, you might want to repair before selling so as not to limit your buyer pool.
