Small jobs welcome

"Working with Yvonne and Carl was one of the best experiences I had interfacing with any decorating/furniture service provider, full stop. They did such a good job upholstering the cushions in my couch that I had them return to do the pillows as well. Yvonne is really thoughtful, responsive, and professional when it comes to her work. She takes pride in the craft, was able to identify exactly what was causing discomfort when sitting on my couch, told me what she would do to address it, and delivered on her promise and then some. I would highly reccommend for any of the services they offer :)"

"Very happy.  Found them through Angie's list, they came to my house in Central NJ (even though based in NY!) and took the back off an overstuffed/upholstered chair that wouldn't fit through a doorway to the 3rd floor of our house where we wanted it.  I saw them do the work - it was definitely complicated, and the main worker (Luis) and his helper did a great job:  this was a newer chair, fully upholstered, and they took it apart, took part of the back off so it would fit, and put the whole thing back together in under an hour!.  I gave a B on price, because it was probably about a 45 minute/hour job, and given that there wasn't any materials involved, the charge is along the lines of what a lawyer charges -- BUT that does seem to be the going rate (I read some articles about other companies in NYC that do this kind of thing, one of which has mixed reviews on Angie's List for professionalism, hence why I stayed away from him) and they did a top-notch job.  They got to my house when they said they would, and scheduled the apptmt just 2 days after I called.  Thank you!

"I had 5 rooms of carpet cleaned. After he was done cleaning them I realized I waited way too long to have them cleaned. There was such a huge difference in appearance after he was done. Very happy how it all came out looking! In 2 weeks Evolution will be back to clean my upholstery which Iâ m super excited about!"

Upholstering questions, answered by experts

Reupholstering is often worthwhile for high-quality, antique, or sentimental couches, especially if the frame is sturdy. It can cost less than buying a comparable new piece and allows for customization, but may not be cost-effective for low-end furniture.

Upholstering allows personalization, extends furniture life, conserves resources, refreshes decor, and often costs less than buying new pieces.

Doing your own upholstery work is possible, but it’s typically a better idea to leave the work to professionals. Without experience and the proper tools, it’s difficult to get a professionally finished appearance for your furniture, and many DIYers end up spending money on tools and materials only to hire a professional when they can’t get the fabric to look right. If you have reupholstery experience, feel free to give it a shot. However, if you’re not confident in your skill level or you’re working with antiques, it’s worth the money to hire a pro.

Part of the beauty of academia decor is that most textures and materials will feel right at home, provided they’re dark. Some common textures include natural wood, dark metals like iron, velvet, and leather. Incorporating these into your dark academia decor will make them look right at home. Glass is another option in some cases, so fill in gaps in your decor with small glass jars, or really lean on the gothic roots of dark academia with stained glass.

To safeguard your furniture and upholstered items, it's best to use plastic wrap or specially-made plastic sofa covers. However, you should avoid wrapping wooden furniture in plastic if you plan on storing it, as plastic can trap moisture and warp the wood, plus it may damage certain finishes. In either case, old blankets or moving blankets make excellent alternatives. For protecting delicate glass table tops and mirrors, bubble wrap is always a reliable choice.
