"Honest and professional. Pat was on time, easy to get in touch with and provided excellent customer service. His work is second to none. Tricolor is not the cheapest group in town but they are the best. You get what you pay for. I have already referred Pat to family and friends in need of plaster repairs and will most certainly use him again for any and all wall repairs in my home. Thank you again Tricolor. Excellent work!"

"I contacted MNM Group to perform plaster repairs in my older home. Zee responded quickly with an in-person quote and explained the pros and cons of the options that were available to me. He was available via both text and phone to answer any questions I had. He installed a sheetrock ceiling in one room, repaired a very difficult stairwell ceiling leading to my upstairs hallway, repaired another stairwell ceiling leading to the basement, repaired water damage in a bedroom and mended various cracks in my plaster walls in several areas. The work was very high quality. The plaster ceiling in my stairwell is SO beautiful now because of his fine work. Zee was a pleasure to work with, on time, talented and I could tell he is a contractor who wants to make his customers happy. I would hire him again and highly recommend his services."

"Mike and, his helper did a fantastic job repairing the drywall crack in our dining room ceiling. There were several steps involved which included repainting the entire ceiling, but Mike did not cut any corners, and did things right the first time. He thoroughly cleaned up afterwards, and you would never know that we had had work done, except for the fact that the ceiling was as good as new. He works very hard, with a measure of Integrity you don’t always find with contractors. He arrived on time, and his work was very fairly priced. He will be on my shortlist for any home repairs in the future."

"This is the second time we have hired Val. About 5 years ago he did the retaining wall for my driveway. That job was done beautifully! When we decided to remove an old wall & put up a new one, we hired Val again. I think he does masterful work. He and his brother are very polite and always professional. Several of my neighbors have stopped to admire his work. I HIGHLY recommend hired this pro."

"Excellent craftsmanship, I hired this company for a retaining wall. They exceeded expectations, and the workers were professional and friendly. I would recommend Super Tony to family and friends. They also kept me in the loop, and touched base through the entire process. My new 60 foot retaining wall looks great!"

"The principal of this company was exceptional in responding to my request for a written estimate to repair some damaged drywall in my garage & then quickly scheduling the work once we set upon a fair price. The work was done professionally and left me quite satisfied. I would not hesitate to use this firm again."

"“The dropdown menu to select the type of work completed does not accurately reflect my project, as there is no option for interior wall and ceiling work. I recently hired this contractor to sand, prime, and paint my kitchen, and I’m very pleased with the results. While there was a small oversight, the team quickly addressed it without any hassle. The supervisor, Mauru, was incredibly pleasant—he even brought pastries as a thoughtful gesture to apologize and ensured the issue was promptly resolved. The work was completed efficiently and in a timely manner, and the entire team was kind and professional. I truly appreciate their attention to detail and commitment to customer satisfaction. I would definitely recommend them!”"

Wall Repair questions, answered by experts

With foundation walls, the slab on grade and force at the top of the wall is resisted by flooring. With retaining walls, the force at the top of the wall is not resisted.

Each design is different, so we can’t say definitively if you’ll need a dedicated drainage system in place for a two-foot retaining wall. However, you can likely skip the drainage, as this project is typically served for walls that are 4 feet tall or more. Even with a relatively low wall, consider drainage if you are building on top of clay or poor-draining soil types or if there are buried water sources nearby, like a well used for other outdoor garden projects.

Depending on who you hire to build a retaining wall, the average cost, including demolition and reconstruction, for a 50-foot wall that's 4 feet in height is between $7,000 and $24,000.

Most railroad tie retaining walls have a life span of 20 to 30 years, though you may need to replace your wall sooner if it’s repeatedly exposed to heavy rain, runoff, and excess moisture. Railroad ties are typically treated with creosote, which makes them much more durable than untreated wood. Though they last longer, they don’t last forever. For the most longevity, make sure your retaining wall has a sturdy base and steel reinforcements. You should also install drainage to direct water away from the wall.

Railroad ties can be good for retaining walls, but it depends on the area. They have a desirable rustic look and are durable. The problem is they’re treated with creosote, a preservative the EPA says poses a risk to humans and wildlife. Over time, the preservative seeps out of the wood and into the ground. Many areas have banned the use of creosote-treated wood on residential properties. If your area does allow it, never use railroad ties near an edible garden or drinking water source. Instead, use wood that’s treated with an EPA-approved preservative or a wood-alternative composite material.
