"They were on time, polite, and prepared. I had them put in a new thermostat and ceiling fan and they programmed them for me and showed me how to do it myself. They even did a little extra for me. When they were finished they cleaned everything up! They were great. I would definitely recommend them!"

"My husband called Code Electric and was given a day (12/23) and time slot of 9-5pm, yes, 8 hours. At around 330, someone called me to tell me they would be out the next morning (12/24), and i would be the first appointment. Noone showed, or called that day. My husband waited until 12/27 to call again and see what was up. They apologized and said they had the dates mixed up and sent Bill and his colleague out within the hour. The work performed was great, they even covered the hole where the original light was nicely and we love our ceiling fan. They cleaned up after themselves and were very courteous.

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where a standard light fixture is, as the electrical wiring is often similar and may not need to be replaced. The most important step is to ensure the ceiling can support the fan's weight and motion. You will need to replace the existing light fixture's electrical box with a fan-rated electrical box, which is specifically designed to handle the extra weight and vibration. These boxes will be labeled as suitable for ceiling fan support and will indicate the maximum weight they can hold. Before you begin, also consider if you need an extension rod for a high ceiling or a special mount for an angled ceiling.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

Ceiling fans require periodic cleaning of blades to avoid dust accumulation, checking screws and connections for firmness, and occasional lubrication for components, keeping the fan running smoothly and quietly over time.

Keeping dust off fans can keep them working optimally and help keep dust mites or bacteria from building up. Dust fans weekly with a duster, microfiber cloth, old pillowcase, or vacuum attachment. You can also try spraying a clean fan with a store-bought dust-repellent product or making a DIY dust-repellent with water and a small amount of liquid fabric softener mixed in.
