However since then Iâ ve noticed that the mortar in the patched area is nearly flush with the brick face, whereas the other mortar (the whole rest of the wall) is set quite deep in. The patched area really stands out as a patch. They didnâ t match the mortar depth to the rest of the wall. Iâ ve repainted the entire hearth to see if that helps, but itâ s still quite noticeable. Not impressed. Lesson learned."
