If you find that the laminate boards are chipping as you cut, you can try flipping the board upside down and cutting the backside first. You can also make a small cut to the top of the board before flipping it and cutting it from the backside. If these strategies do not work, you can place painter’s tape along the edge of the cut to prevent chipping. It is also possible that the saw blade is dull and needs to be replaced.

You can likely use spray paint or a paint sprayer for your laminate countertops. You should prep the space the same way as if you were painting with a roller or brush, making sure to cover any areas that you want to protect with a drop cloth or plastic sheets.

You should always seal cut countertops to prevent damage and to keep them looking their best. The right way to seal countertops depends on the type of material. Cutting from the top down can also prevent chipping when using a blade with horizontal teeth. You may also want to cut from the back of the laminate sheet toward you to better stay on the line and keep your speed consistent.

While Formica® countertops are scratch-resistant, they are not fully scratch-proof. They will develop marks on their upper decorative layer more easily than quartz, granite, or porcelain tile. Always use cutting boards for food prep and avoid dragging heavy items, such as blenders or big pots, across the surfaces.
