"Adam was exceptionally professional in his attitude and workmanship. He was incredibly detail oriented and made sure that the finished product was up to his extremely high standards. We absolutely will hire him for all future painting and staining tasks. We are so grateful for his work."

"Crew knew exactly what to do, cleaned up well, and used appropriate care and safety. Brian oversaw operation and interacted with home owner. Material shortages delayed start time a couple of weeks, but all worked out in the end. Not the least expensive option, but appears to be a quality project."

Small jobs welcome

"Nice family business. Had some trouble with some employees getting started but Costas and his dad always took over and made sure everything was great. They did most of the work themselves which was important to me that someone was always on site. My schedule is crazy. Iâ m often not home and I trusted them to be here and get the job done without my oversight. We ran into some challenges, even added a few more jobs to the project. He took in stride, eager for the work and honest and upfront about what he could do what needed to be done? I enjoyed working with him, so Iâ m giving him another project"

"All proceeded very smoothly. Good communication with Pete. Superb attention to detail including a few things that were not in the quote... Pete simply noticed a few necessary repairs around my house and he took care of these things for me. It would have been very difficult to find a contractor for these small repairs but it's great to have things in good shape now thanks to Pete! Great crew, cheerful, thoughtful, highly skilled. Beautiful porch in front of my house, replacing ugly concrete steps. A very nice job. Beautiful re-designed steps in the house for safety. Excellent job installing the new windows. A+ job. This was a big job but Pete made it go very smoothly and I am very happy with the results. I paid a fair price and Pete was open and honest at every stage."

The quality of the work is excellent, and the new roof looks great. They kept the work area clean and communicated well throughout the process. I would definitely recommend them to anyone needing a roof replacement."

"My home has been plagued by ice dams for years. After a recent snow storm/thaw, water started streaming through my bathroom ceiling at 3:00 in the morning. I looked for someone who could come quickly and found Marquis Roofing's ad that claimed 24-hour emergency service, so I called. Much to my surprise, a real person answered the phone at that ridiculous hour. What's more, he said he would be at my house within a couple of hours -- and he was. Tom Marquis and his team had the ice dams removed, shoveled the remainder of my roof, and even made sure my front steps and deck were clear in record time and for a great price. Tom said he'd be happy to come and clear the snow off the dormer after any subsequent storms (there have been 3) and he was true to his word. One email and he was back within 24 hours. What's more, he presented me with a solution that would fix my ice dam problem for good which we will be taking advantage of this Spring. I can't say enough about the outstanding customer service I received from Tom and would highly recommend Marquis Roofing to anyone who needs high-quality work at a reasonable cost."

Deck Staining questions, answered by experts

Choosing the best color for your home exterior should factor in longevity as well as your personal taste. To keep your house looking newly painted as long as possible, stay away from red paint. Although red homes pop and are quintessential for country-style barns, red paint tends to fade fastest in the sun. Go with earth tones if you want paint that best resists fading.

Provided conditions are ideal, staining an entire deck should take as little as a couple of hours and up to a couple of days to apply and cure. Additional procedures, like sealing a deck or using additional treatments, may extend the project by a few additional days.

Your tool of choice ultimately comes down to personal preference. Many DIYers prefer applying stain with a lint-free rag, but others stick with a paint brush or a roller. Wipe the stain and work it into the wood, working with and against the grain. If you’re applying multiple coats, allow the stain to dry for around four hours between coats.

No, you don't need to stain Ipe decking, although you can if you want to change the color. You will, however, need to apply a UV coating if you don't want the natural color to fade. Speak to a deck staining specialist near you to discuss the best options if you want to stain your decking. And remember that you’ll need to seal your Ipe wood deck annually to protect it from scratches and Mother Nature.

The opposite is actually true: Wood stains tend to appear lighter when they’re fully dry. However, stains may darken as they weather and oxidize with age. Stains might also darken on surfaces left in direct sunlight, as UV rays can break down pigment particles and cause them to darken over time.
