"Russ’s crew from Shop at Home Flooring installed laminate flooring in my living room in mid October of 2021. I was satisfied with the finished result, but as of late June when the warmer weather started, the floor has been buckling and lifting up in a particular area. I contacted Russ and explained the problem and provided him a video that shows the problem. He told me I needed to run a dehumidifier in order to solve the problem which I have been doing with no results. If anything it has gotten worse. I contacted Russ to let him know and was told he would send out Paul (one of his crew members) to come and look at it. This was on July 26 and I still have not heard from Russ after numerous attempts to contact him. I have filed a dispute with Thumbtack, the app I used to hire this company, and Russ has not responded and has since removed his company info from the from the thumbtack site. In the meantime I have had two contractors come out to assess the problem, both telling me that in their opinion the floor was installed improperly. Still no response from Russ or his company. Very unprofessional. Would definitely not recommend!"

You can lay carpet by yourself, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you should. The best course of action may be to attempt to paint them between having the old floor removed and the new floor laid, though this will render the room unusable for a period of time and may make the entire project a bit slower overall.

Installing carpet on stairs involves a lot more cutting, tucking, tack strips, and time. The shape of your staircase, along with the material and construction of the carpet you’re installing, will also increase the cost. Carpet installation on stairs will cost $400 to $800 in total, but it can go as high as $2,500 for difficult staircases, such as wrap-around, upholstered, or spiral staircases.

Carpet tiles are less expensive than traditional carpet. The average cost of carpet installation is $1,800, or $3 to $11 per square foot. In comparison, carpet tiles cost $2.50 to $11 apiece and can often be bought in bulk cartons. Since you can more easily DIY carpet tiles, you may be able to save on installation costs, too.

It is normal to glue carpet down, though it’s not the only or the most popular method of installing carpet. Modern techniques include tack strips and stretching the carpet, but you might still find glued carpet in older homes or a home with a DIY’d past. Removing a glued-down carpet will be harder compared to other methods of installation.
