"I had new siding installed on a ranch house and 2-story garage and had an egress window installed. The project got started a bit later that anticipated, but once it did, the siding crew was quick and efficient. They were responsive to any concern I had. The egress window install offered a few challenges with the equipment they used and having to deal with the dirt from the egress window took me a bit by surprise. The inside cleanup could have been a little better. But, all in all, I am very pleased with the results of both the siding and the egress window and the way the project was handled. I would hire this company again and would recommend them."

Egress Windows questions, answered by experts

Costs depend on window size, type, material, and labor. Custom shapes or sizes typically incur higher expenses; full installation includes removing old windows.

Installing a window well costs anywhere from $500 to $1,500 or more. Adding an egress window and well runs about $3,900 on average. Adding a window well cover to the project can add $200 to $700. A well cover helps protect your egress windows from weather damage and keeps them clear of dirt, debris, and wildlife.

When you need new windows depends on a variety of factors, including the age of your windows, the age of your home, and the climate you live in. If you’re dealing with budget constraints, you don’t need to replace all your windows simultaneously.

When buying new windows, you should consider energy efficiency, safety, and aesthetics to choose the right window for you.

An egress window is similar to a regular window. However, this type of window opens fully to allow people to escape the home or rescue personnel to enter the home if an emergency occurs. Egress windows are required in all finished basements before they can be considered a living space.

Because egress windows are meant for emergency exiting and entering, they need to be an accessible size. The smallest an egress window is allowed to be is 15 inches in width and height, with an opening of around 4 square feet.
