I have spent the last four years remodeling and constructing new buildings, working for other companies such as Hausmann Construction and Samsung Construction—including on the renovation of the football stadium in Lincoln, Nebraska. I have carried out renovations of churches and schools, as well as basements, garages, bathrooms, and kitchens. Now, I have established my own company, and I am ready to apply all my expertise to grow my business.
Lined up another sub-contractor to come by and give estimate to take out wall so I could expand/add kitchen island, but neither the first person I met with nor the sub-contractor followed up with me to provide the total estimate. I left a message a few weeks later asking for a call back and never received one.
In the end, whether they could do the work I was asking for or not, had they followed up with me, I would have considered them for my cabinet refinishing work, which I will be doing this summer.
UPDATE November 7, 2014: The owner of the co got back with me after seeing this review. He went above and beyond to address the poor follow through and put me in touch with another designer who promptly contacted me and drew up some plans. They addressed all my questions and on top of that he even reimbursed the $50 fee. I was very pleased with the recommendation, timeliness and over all effort to make it right."
"Upper Echelon Reno was one of the contractors we contacted for our bathroom remodel, which included flooring, toilet, moldings. I was impressed right from the start. Mr. Kirkpatrick listened very courteously and attentively writing down EVERY concern we had about the remodel. He even had several good ideas and suggestions. The quote listed everything, including materials, in it and was exact and detailed. The price was very reasonable too; considering the quality of the work performed. The work men where fast, efficient and dedicated. The quality, fit, and finish of the work was outstanding. "When we decided to redo our kitchen in April of 2012, we knew what we wanted fixed, our budget and that's about it. We started talking to contractors, kitchen design centers and researching ideas. We quickly realized we were in WAY over our heads. A lot of places offer free design services if you buy all of your materials through them. We didn't want to be tied down. We didn't want a complete tear down to the studs, either. Homemade Design to the rescue! First of all the price was an absolute steal for the service provided. Amanda and co. Listened to what we wanted and came up with inovative,functional and beautiful solutions. Our house is old. We wanted to keep that 1920s feel, but still have a dishwasher, granite countertops and stainless appliances! Amanda had the brilliant idea of only replacing the bottom cabinets. She also gave me excellent instructions on how to refinish my existing cabinets so they look like new. This was a perfect solution for US. Homemade Design gave us ideas for layout, cabinets, lighting, wall paint, appliances, furniture, countertops, backsplash, faucets, sink,and cusions for built in. She would have recommended flooring if we wanted,but we didn't. Now, Amanda is more like a consultant...( I actually called her my kitchen remodel therapist). You still are ultimately responsible for the plan and what works for you. If your measurements are off (like mine were) that's on you. I was adament about no island and no microwave over the stove and so she didn't put those in the design. Some suggestions were not my style. And I said so. Honestly, if I picked out my own kitchen it would be so safe: white subway tile or something. Amanda gave me the guts to mix patterns and create something spectacular! It took almost a year to complete ( contractors fault) We did a lot of work ourselves. We bought the cabinets, backsplash tile, light fixtures, table and banquette cusions through Homemade Design at a great discount, we checked!! If you try shopping for any part of your kitchen, the volume of choices can be overwhelming. We loved having Amanda narrow it down for us. Communication was through email, mostly. She never took longer than three business days to respond to my million questions or concerns. Awesome. 5 months later, my kitchen is a dream come true. And I owe it all to Homemade Design! "

In May 2012, we had a bad windstorm that took shingles off my roof. The USAA insurance adjuster said the whole roof had to be replaced. I know a little about roofs but not enough to feel comfortable about picking a company considering the amount of companies that move through here because of storms like this. I asked USAA if they had any suggestions and they referred me their program contractor -Total Construction Service Inc. and contacted the company for me. I got a call from the estimator that same day. The estimator, Mitch Stringer, came to my house, went up on the roof, measured and answered all my questions. We talked about the measurements that the adjuster had made and the material I could choose from; how they would install the roof; when and how the material would be delivered; and the cleanup. He pointed out that my roof was not ventilated properly and we discussed how they could correct the problem and what the result of the change he proposed would make. He took pictures before and after and did all the work to change the work order from USAA to include necessary upgrades to the roof that we had discussed. I also had some issues with my downspouts so he spent time measuring and discussing them with me. He had the proposal ready in 3 days and I paid no money out-of-pocket prior to the work being done. The material was delivered the day before the work was done, the crew showed up when they said they would and completed the roof in one day. When all was complete, Mitch came back and went over the changes and was able to demonstrate that it had indeed made a difference in the movement of air. He did all the work to get the payment from the insurance company and I paid my deductible. USAA and Total Construction have a great working relationship which positively impacted my experience.
The work was done to my satisfaction and at the time of my choosing and they followed up to ensure that I was satisfied. The company demonstrated honesty and integrity and follow through.

Bump-out additions can extend anywhere from 2 to 15 feet from an existing room. The right size will depend on how you plan to use the new space. For a cantilever bump-out, which doesn't require additional foundation support, the limit is typically 24 inches (2 feet). If a footing and foundation are part of the project, a bump-out can be much larger, even encompassing a whole room. It's also important to remember that many residential properties have limits on the total house size relative to the lot size.
If the bowing basement wall is less than 2 inches, steel or carbon fiber straps are the best solution. For bowing that is more than 2 inches, wall anchors are the most effective. A contractor can help you decide the best method of repair for your home's foundation and also address the root cause of the trouble.
