If you’re building the roof trusses yourself, which isn’t recommended, it will be more affordable than buying pre-built trusses. Trusses cost more because they use the same amount of material, but you’ll also be paying for the labor, as well as the delivery to your home. You can install a spray foam roof over shingles, but it may compromise the roof’s protective qualities or shorten its lifespan. Before installing a new roof, ask a qualified roofer if your existing roof needs to be removed before installing a spray foam roof so you ensure your home has quality, long-lasting protection. 

Shingles should overhang the drip edge by no more than 3/4-inch. Longer overhangs will more easily get caught in wind and leave you with an increased risk of roof uplift.
