"Absolutely OUTSTANDING.
Owner Jeff is the ultimate professional.  Completely knowledgeable, flexible, punctual, patient, while being very personable.
Over the decades here in New Bern, I have interviewed and hired dozens of various contractors.  Most, quite honestly, are not worth the powder to blow away.  Case in point, another outfit gave an estimate for this job.  Verbally, they quoted three times as much as Jeff.  Then they promised a follow-up written estimate.  That was the last we heard from those jokers.
Two thumbs up for AdvantaClean and Jeff.

"The job went great. Mr. Ingrham personally did the estimate. They completed the job in about a week. The quality of the job exceeded expectations. He genuinely cares about providing a great service. As a prior foreclosure, some of the walls were in bad shape. The house looks brand new. I contacted many people trying to contract my job. It is my opinion that Mr. Ingrham is the best in the area. You will not be disappointed."

"They did a great job from the salesman to the roofers. Everything the salesman told me (and he went thru everything that would be done, step by step) was done from the materials being dropped off the day before to the clean up after the roof was done. I hope I don.t ever need it but the 50 year / unlimited wind guarantee isnice and it's even transferable if i ever want to move"

"C&R Home Repairs & Improvement is highly recommended for rebuilding and refurbishing decks, steps and the like. The Owner, Roland is very caring, courteous, and professional. His estimate and delivery of completion was on target and certainly a very fair price. Yes, I will consider Roland for all my home repairs and improvements."

"It worked out really well. It got off to a kind of a rocky start but they did a good job. They were very prompt in coming out and giving me a written estimate. They used quality materials, some really good Sherwin Williams duration paint. I contracted with them last November and they didn't do the work until June. Obviously, a large part of it was because of the winter weather. They couldn't do it during the winter. We also had a very rainy spring, so they could not get here to do the work until the last week of May. We had an issue with communication. The gentleman who was in charge of the whole project, whose name was Alan Farmer, was very professional and very courteous. He explained everything they were doing. But I did have a problem and he did not return my phone calls at the beginning. It turned out to be a voicemail issue that he had on his end. But I got pretty frustrated. Once we got on track, they had a couple of issues that delayed the work. He had some health problems. They also had another job or two that they had not finished yet. So they didn't come here and work straight through. There were some gaps in time that I found a little bit annoying but the work that they did was so good that I basically think it was worth it in the long run.

I am updating my review a year later. Over time, I have noticed places where the painters didn't do an adequate job of covering the old paint, either by not applying a second coat or where they completely missed spots. They spilled paint on my roof (visible from the street) and my back porch (natural wood finish). The two wooden columns are not of good quality wood: the finish is rough and shows knotholes, and the overall effect is that it was done by an amateur. Again, not enough paint to cover the bare wood.

The workmen failed to remove the decals on the inside of the large window over my porch, even though I pointed that out. I cannot reach that high up to remove them (10 feet), and it detracts from the appearance.

During the work, one of the painters lost his footing and fell from the main roof onto the roof of my back porch. Not only was the man injured, but he refused my repeated requests to let me call 911. He appeared to have scraped his shin bone. Distressing for everyone, and I can only hope his injuries healed.

I don't know if this company is even in business any more, but if so, I would NOT recommend them."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

While eco-friendly decking, also called composite decking, is a win for the environment because it consists of recycled materials, it has trade-offs. These sustainable options often come with steeper price tags, lack natural wood's warm look, and can become uncomfortably hot under full sun. Some composite materials can also become slick when wet, posing a potential hazard.

Space deck handrail posts four to six feet apart. If the posts are more than six feet apart, the railing will be less able to withstand lateral forces and is more susceptible to breaking. Additionally, railing posts that are more than six feet apart may not be up to code, and you may face fines and be required to reinstall the posts to bring them up to code.

Building a deck isn't too hard if you’re handy with carpentry, have the necessary tools, and are willing to put effort into it. However, other factors, such as plans, permits, and design, can be hard if you don’t have experience in those areas.

Note: You’ll need another person to help you build the deck (especially for framing and setting the beams). Building a deck yourself will be very difficult if you don’t have an extra set of hands to help.

While you can use various materials like sand or even just soil, gravel is widely considered the best option to put under a deck. It provides excellent drainage and is resistant to water, fire, and pests. Gravel also helps anchor the soil to prevent erosion during heavy rain and acts as a built-in weed blocker, reducing regular upkeep. Furthermore, it is simple to spread, available in various textures and tones, and adds a polished look that complements any deck design.

A covered deck can be a good investment that increases your home value—especially if you live in a hot region with a lot of sun. A covering over the deck means you can get more use out of it, even on the hottest summer days. With a permanent deck covering, you can even add ceiling fans to help cool down your deck for added comfort.
