"Sergii was very professional, flexible, communicated well, and was able to pull off my vision for a black marble fireplace without cracking a single piece of tile. He was also able to see and fix problems from previous renovated areas of the project so that installation would be safe and last. He was very upfront about cost and let me know about the price of materials before starting his work. And he kept his work area very CLEAN!! I was overall very impressed with his expertise, Iâ d recommend him to anyone."

"Dustin was prompt, and gave me the details of what the job would entail. He kept me updated by text as to when he would be coming, and when I texted him on the morning of the day he was going to paint the rail and told him I had changed my mind about the color (I wanted white instead of black), he was able to accommodate me. He did a great job! I'm very pleased!"

"I live in a 55+ condo community. The metal platform holding 2 mailboxes was damaged by a delivery truck and the platform was cracked. Troy and his project manager were able to weld the platform back perfectly. Both gentleman were extremely professional, answered all my questions and did a great job. I highly recommend! "Michael installed two large, custom windows in my living room, replacing the older ones that were beyond repair. He was on time, cleaned up, even repainted some areas that had been slightly scratched during installation, and all for a fair price. I would definitely use him again and have already referred him to clients. He does not disappoint!"

Small jobs welcome

"We had various custom projects which included welding and metal fabrication. Darius is knowledgeable and very creative. He showed great skills in many areas of the trades allowing him to deliver great product. One of the projects was to fabricate and replicate hard to find construction equipment panels (skid steer and dump truck) which were a perfect fit. Always helpful and shows up when needed. We'll hire him again. Hard to find craftsmen like this."

Install Stair Railings questions, answered by experts

The proper height for a stair riser or deck step is between four and seven inches, with seven inches often considered the most comfortable. Building your stairs to this height ensures a strain-free step position and minimizes the risk of trip and fall injuries. For optimal safety and comfort, especially on deck stairs, a rise of around seven inches should be paired with a tread depth (or run) of at least 10 to 12 inches. While it is possible to design stairs with risers up to 12 inches, this height can be challenging for children, pets, or individuals with mobility issues. Always check with your local building codes, as they may mandate specific dimensions that differ from these general recommendations.

The short answer is that the cost to build a staircase largely depends on what material they’re made out of and how many you need. Wood stairs cost about $50 to $100 per step for materials alone, while labor costs an additional $100 to $250 per step. The cost increases for more expensive materials such as glass or concrete.

Extensive rot, structural damage, or aesthetic issues require dual wood replacement, whereas minor, localized issues might only need repair.

Building codes for spiral staircases will vary by your location. Most local codes will specify minimum tread width, riser height, handrail requirements, and headroom. These standards help ensure safety and accessibility for all users. Always check local codes before you begin the installation to ensure compliance and avoid costly modifications or fines.

Wood and metal are the two most common materials used. Breaking it down further, homeowners tend to use a slightly higher grade of wood than they might elsewhere—it isn’t uncommon to see maple, mahogany, redwood, and other luxury woods used. Metal tends to be aluminum or steel due to the fact that you don’t need very protective metal, as the material isn’t being subjected to any weather.
