"Terry, Michael, David, Keith, Maurice & AJ, did an outstanding job on my three fencing projects. They not only had to take down and relocate 65 feet of old fencing, but they also had to make an additional 8-foot panel, install a new 100-foot fence and add another 16-feet to my picket fence! Although raccoons aren’t particularly picky regarding food, certain sounds, metals, and smells bother them. You can place these items around your home to keep raccoons away:

  • Place wire mesh screens around and underneath decks and porches to prevent raccoons from nesting. 

  • Put metal sheeting around the edges of your roof or at the base of trees to deter raccoons from coming close. 

  • Place a loud battery-operated radio near the raccoon’s den to keep them from nesting.

  • Keep a bowl of cider vinegar on your deck or porch.

First, contact your local wildlife services department. Then, you should be able to remove the groundhog by making the environment uncomfortable for them using scent, sound, and light, or set a live trap with natural bait that allows you to relocate the groundhog at least 20 miles from your home.

While keeping any critter away permanently isn’t always possible, you can keep mice away from your home by setting traps, fumigating your space, and sealing known entry points. Gophers do not hibernate, meaning you could, at least theoretically, have a gopher problem in your yard any time of year. During the colder parts of the year when soil isn't as easy to work with, gophers may not dig as many holes or be as active and instead will burrow deeper into the earth to go below the frost line to stay warm.
