Company was contacted with a response that they would return to fix things. They never returned to complete the necessary repairs and phone calls and emails were unanswered from that point onward. Will need to hire someone else to finish the job correctly."

"The wallpaper was a big job, and the drywall needed a lot of work after its removal. I was initially happy as he made quick work of the wallpaper. But, after the skim coat to fix the drywall was applied and sanded, there were still a lot of imperfections. He painted the wall anyway, applying copious amounts of paint to cover up the flaws. I objected, and he sanded the walls again, and fixed the drywall imperfections and repainted, and the walls were pretty smooth. After the paint dried, I had the same problem with the chair rail, and LOTS of bits of wallpaper, drywall paper and glue were stuck to it, and he painted over it all, just as he had done on the walls. I called him back, and he sanded, patched, sanded and painted.... again. Steer clear from this guy, unless you want to struggle with trying to educate him regarding what you consider a quality paint job- every step of the way. And expect to find trash and empty water bottles in various places about your home."

For the most part, peel-and-stick wallpaper doesn't damage walls. However, there may be some cases when damage does occur. For example, if you try to rip the paper off the wall, you may pull away some paint at the same time.

The walls can also be damaged if they aren't prepared properly before you add the wallpaper. For example, if the coat of paint is too fresh when you put the wallpaper on the walls, it can peel away as you remove the paper. 

Wallpaper lasts an average of around 15 years, but there is some variance. The type of wallpaper matters, as vinyl wallpaper tends to last the longest—sometimes 20 years or more—while a peel-and-stick wallpaper, which is the easiest to install for DIYers, will usually only last for around five years. Exposure to high humidity, smoke, and UV rays from sunlight can also limit the lifespan of your wallpaper, as can heavy traffic in the installation area.

You can paint over existing wallpaper if you select wallpaper that is designed to be paintable. This type of paper is meant to add texture to walls. Alternatively, if you have old wallpaper you’d like to cover up, you can often paint over that instead of removing it. However, it needs to be smooth, damage-free, and non-textured. Otherwise, any bumps, tears, and texture will show through the paint.

You can paint over wallpaper if it’s smooth and in good shape. But if there are bumps or tears in the wallpaper, they’ll likely show through the paint. Similarly, you should avoid painting over textured wallpaper because the ridges and patterns in the paper will be visible. In either of these situations, you should remove the wallpaper before painting.

While it is possible to paint over wallpaper, it’s not always ideal. If the wallpaper is firmly adhered, has no bubbling or peeling, and isn’t textured, you can try to prime and paint over it. Use an oil-based primer to prevent the adhesive from bleeding through. However, if the paper is damaged or loose, removal is the better long-term solution.
