"We had roof damage and our deck was destroyed during the hurricane. TG came in and fixed the roof plus tore out the old deck and replaced it...plus an addition to the deck and build a new roof for the deck. Wonderful work, very nice to work with and did not try to charge and outrageous amount. Would recommend to anyone. Thanks for a great experience!"

Small jobs welcome

"Communication and scheduling with Will was excellent. He was very responsive and knowledgeable about the repairs I needed. He repaired the outside deck and replaced deck joists that were damaged, as well as replacing closet shelving and repairing damaged sheetrock. I will definitely be contacting him again for future home repairs!"

"I was extremely nervous about my color choices as I had decided to not just use the same color that had always been on the house. I asked his opinion between two and Jesse helped me decide. They did an excellent job of cleaning the exterior and both of my decks. Just saw my new color up on the exterior last night. Love it. I am a bit of a control freak but I had to trust that they were professional and knew what and how to do the job. I am glad I trusted in them."

"They made excellent contact but I had verbally committed to another company. Even so, they sent information about their services and some pointers about other maintenance resources."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

Typically, most residential wooden decks are designed to support approximately 40 pounds per square foot, including the deck’s weight and any items placed on it. While this is fine for typical use, it is usually not enough to hold the weight of a hot tub filled with water and people. To safely support a hot tub, your wood deck will likely require reinforcement. Therefore, it’s best to have a contractor or a structural engineer assess it before hot tub installation.

You typically don’t need a railing and handrails on a deck that’s less than 30 inches from the ground. However, consider adding them regardless. Railings provide additional safety for you and your guests who use your deck—plus, railings give the deck a more finished look than it would have without them.

Trex states that its Trex decking is an eco-friendly composite material made of 95% recycled or reclaimed materials (including plastic and wood), making it a sustainable brand of choice. According to the company, Trex is one of the largest plastic bag recyclers in the U.S., with each 500-square-foot Trex deck containing about 140,000 recycled plastic bags.

Yes, you can draw your own deck plans in many cases. However, you must know your local building codes and be familiar with carpentry principles. Even then, it's always best to run your plans by a professional contractor with experience building decks, whether you choose to DIY some of the build or not.

While experienced DIYers may take on the challenge, hiring a licensed professional is often the best route, especially for larger or elevated structures. A local deck contractor is typically the best pro for the job, as they have specialized experience and are knowledgeable about local building codes, ensuring your deck is built safely and designed to last. Other professionals who can build a deck include general contractors and carpenters, who may be more readily available in some regions.
