Pegram Associates, Inc. is the successor firm to the firms of Pegram Associates, PA, of Statesville, North Carolina, & Riddle & Wilkes of Myrtle Beach, SC. Pegram Associates, PA began practice in 1959 as Adams & Pegram, Engineers/Architects in Statesville, North Carolina. That firm offered complete architectural & engineering services until 1972 when it ceased offering engineering services and became Pegram Associates, PA. That firm then continued through 1987. This firm was organized as Riddle & Pegram Associates in 1982 as a result of the acquisition of the Myrtle Beach firm of Riddle and Wilkes by the Statesville, North Carolina firm of Pegram Associates P. A. The staff of Riddle & Wilkes was retained & one member of that staff is now a principal of this firm. Following the retirement of Harold Riddle in early 1986 this firm was reorganized to its present format as Pegram Associates, Inc. & relocated to new and expanded quarters. In 1987 the companion firm of Pegram Associates P. A. in North Carolina was closed & all work transferred to the Myrtle Beach office. A home elevator is a fantastic way to improve your home’s accessibility. Elevators allow anyone, even those who use wheelchairs or walkers, to safely move between floors within your home.

Dumbwaiters may allow you to move items up and down floors, and stair lifts can move people up and down, but elevators are the best option if you need space for people, their belongings, and/or mobility aids such as wheelchairs.

That said, home elevators cost more than other options, such as stair lifts. Consider your needs and your budget when deciding the best way to make your home more accessible to a person with a disability or a person who is aging in place.

Costs depend on project complexity, software requirements, and the draftsperson’s experience.

The primary reason homes have crawl spaces is so the foundation can reach down below the frost line to avoid dangerous soil movement and structural damage when the ground freezes. They’re more popular in colder climates where the ground freezes down to a few feet, and slabs are most popular in warmer areas where there is no frost line. Crawl spaces also provide a space for utility lines to run where they’re at less of a risk of freezing.

Federal architecture is most common in urban areas throughout the New England states, including the older parts of New York, Pennsylvania (namely, Boston and Philadelphia), Maryland, Massachusetts, and Virginia. The style also dominated in parts of Georgia in the late 18th and early 19th centuries, so many historical homes in the area embody this home design. Salem, MA, has two historic districts that predominantly feature this architectural style: Chestnut Street District and the Salem Maritime National Historic Site.

Above all, the downside to building a new house is a longer timeline. You need several months to finish the build, depending on the supply chain and labor availability in the meantime. Building a home compared to buying one is also more expensive, both in the building process and when it comes to mortgage rates and property taxes.
