"Super nice guys and they did a wonderful job on my gravel driveway. They were very transparent up front about what to expect and they executed everything perfectly. 10/10 would hire them again, and have already recommended them to other family members and friends who need work done."

"Southern Sod Installations and the principles Matthew and Andrew did an outstanding job installing new sod on some very bad parts of both my front yard and the yard in the rear. I was really impressed with the fact that the new sod was freshly cut the morning of the installation. The 3 man crew also did a great job cleaning up after the installation and gave me clear instructions regarding watering ,cutting and fertilization."

"Back in July, I had the Hoyt Industrial Works team come out for a major overgrown pond cleanup and small expansion. Chase met me on site at my convenience and within minutes he had a plan to achieve what I wanted. They brought the necessary equipment to clear, expand, and grade the pond edge back into shape. I can see and fish my pond again! HIW is coming back in December to raise the overflow drain, widen the pond dyke, and reclaim an old path down to the creek. I highly recommend this team for any of your needs! Very knowledgable and efficient."

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Palm trees are relatively easy to grow, especially when planting different varieties in their native habitats. While regular watering is crucial in the first couple of months while the palm develops a strong root ball, palms typically require minimal maintenance once they’re established. You’ll need to prune palm fronds once or twice per year to keep it in tip-top shape.

Most bamboo can send roots down two to three feet into the ground. However, when stopping bamboo from spreading, the focus is on the runner roots or rhizomes. These roots are much shallower, staying 12 inches or less from the surface, so they’re easier to find and remove. But if you want to remove the bamboo entirely, you’ll have to dig out the full root system.

A scattering of leaves won’t pose a problem through the winter, but a thicker layer of leaves may not decompose before the first frost and can instead weigh down your grass and harbor mold or fungi. A thick layer of leaves also cuts off light and air that grass needs to grow. That’s why we suggest removing thick leaf layers within several days if possible. If your lawn goes dormant over the winter and snow has already caught up with you, then remove the leaves in early spring before your grass-growing season starts so your lawn can thrive.

Yes, weeds can still grow in decomposed granite. If properly compacted, it can act as a good weed suppressant, meaning you’ll only pull weeds occasionally. But no ground cover is completely weed-proof. To further prevent weeds, you can try spraying your decomposed granite with distilled white vinegar.

The landscaping elements that add the most value are often the basics. A well-maintained, attractive lawn can have a return on investment (ROI) of up to 217%. Routine lawn maintenance, such as edging and mulching, can provide an ROI of over 100%. Other high-value projects include upgrading your front walkway, which can offer a 100% ROI, and planting trees. Projects like adding decks, patios, outdoor lighting, irrigation systems, fire pits, and outdoor kitchens also add value and enjoyment, though their direct financial ROI may be less than 100% in some cases.
