"Very pleased with all the grading and excavation and clearing that was done behind my house. I explained to Jason that I needed my yard to be more level due to I could not get my lawnmower up the hill. He discussed with me all options that would resolve the problem. He went over and beyond to resolve the issue. I highly recommend him and would use him again."

"Completed our shoreline stabilization on Lake Blueridge. There is no access for heavy equipment through our property so every thing can by barge on the lake, all stone and equipment! No disruption to our landscaping. Phil and Steve moved the huge bolder with escalators in precision. It was fun to watch! They were friendly and respectful. Art worked hard to understand what we wanted and the clearly communicated it to team. Such a relief to have the shoreline protected and with no disruption to our property! They are conscientious and use a lot of technology to determine the right way to do the project. They care and want to do it right. They have our recommendation."

"Summit Land Development delivered! Scott and his team did a terrific job on our parking area and driveway. The work was done as agreed. The team was respectful of our property, very friendly, extremely qualified, and a pleasure to have on our project. The quoted price was very fair and all potential changes to scope were discussed and quoted - refreshing to have a contractor give you a quote and stick to it. Highly recommend Summit Land Development and if we have another need for their services they're the first company we'll contact"

Landscaping questions, answered by experts

Don’t worry if there’s a gap between cutting and planting an ideal branch. You can still cut the perfect branch when you see it. If you can’t get it in a pot or water right away, put it in a zip-top bag in the refrigerator. When you’re ready to finish the process, make a fresh cut.

Many ways to landscape a steep slope on a budget exist. Avoiding expensive retaining wall construction is the first step. Consider creating a rocky slope with boulders or large stones, or think about planting perennials that return every year with a single investment. Transplanting small trees from elsewhere on your property is also possible and can help to stabilize steep slopes without purchasing new ones.

A half inch above ground level is ideal for metal edging. This provides enough depth for the edging to hold in place and enough height to keep in most landscaping materials (like mulch or gravel). If you install edging too high off the ground, it will stand out from your landscaping and pose a tripping risk. If you install it too low, your ground cover won’t stay in place.

The cost to plant a small tree or sapling is between $100 and $300 on average, if you hire a professional. Big trees will cost more and usually require the work of a specialist, so expect to pay over $1,000 for those.

The best time to plant a privet hedge is autumn, ideally October or early November. Fall is the best time to plant privet hedges because young plants need plenty of water to jump-start their growth, and it typically rains more during this season. However, you can also successfully plant privets in the spring.
