"They responded promptly. Came out the next day to give a quote and started the work the following day. Our driveway is 750ft so it took 2 days to complete because of product shortage. Very nice people."

"He answered my call right away. He worked around my very busy schedule. They installed Millings in my parking and walk ways and front culvert along the road for weed control! The crew was very polite and went above and beyond. I had a hard project that had lots of fences to work around and objects , and he did a great job getting everything packed in and was very reasonable with the price."

"Jimmy called me shortly after submitting a request for a quote. He came over that night to quote and wanted to pave the following day since he apparantly needed the work. He had the least expensive quote and had a few good reviews so I opted to have them pave the next dry day (2 days from signing). They showed up to pave and were responsive about any requests that I had. His team were all nice to me, but they cussed him like a sailor as they worked. Some sections too small for machinery had to be done by hand and overall turned out uneven and thin/wavy. Then they moved onto the driveway. They ran out of asphalt as Jimmy apparently miscalculated his needs and asked for $1,500 more dollars to cover his "loss" on the project. I could only afford another $300 ($7,300 total) as I was rushed into paving anyway. It was nearing 5:00 and Jimmy asked for me to write him a check (in his name, not the company name) so he could rush to the bank and cash it to "pay his asphalt supplier". I was uneasy about that as the driveway wasn't finished but I obliged. They did finish the driveway after I paid him. Overall, most of the driveway looks ok. The section they shoveled/tamped by hand is uneven, wavy, and thin in some spots. The section where the driveway connects to the road isn't thick enough and became wavy as well. My biggest complaint is a huge dip in the driveway. It's right in front of the sidewalk leading to the front door. I texted Jimmy a couple days after completition. It had rained and created a huge puddle of water which will damage the asphalt over time and makes it impossible to walk to the front door during/after rain without getting your feet wet. At first he played it off and said it would be fine. When I was persistent, he finally agreed to bring out some asphalt repair to fill in the dip. That was nearly 6 weeks ago. I text him weekly to see when he's coming and, at first, he would eventually respond with an excuse for why he couldn't come that week. He eventually just quit responding. So, if you're looking for cheap asphalt, Jimmy is your guy. But you'll get what you pay for. I'm noticing a lot of loose stones on the top of my driveway so I'm hopeful I can seal it in the spring and the entire thing not simply erode way. I cannot recommend this company for anyone who wants a professional company to do a professional job."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Instead of a set number of types, asphalt comes in variations designed for different needs. Some are categorized by temperature—hot mix, warm mix, and cold mix. Others are sorted by composition, like dense-graded, gap-graded (such as Stone Matrix Asphalt), porous, and mastic asphalt. There are also modified versions with added compounds like polymers, rubber, or emulsions. Instead of focusing on a number, it may be more useful to understand how contractors customize asphalt for durability, climate, and traffic conditions.

A driveway's lifespan varies by material. Asphalt driveways typically last 15 to 30 years, while concrete driveways last longer, between 20 and 50 years. The longevity of any driveway is affected by factors like extreme temperatures, heavy traffic, and the quality of maintenance. Regular upkeep, such as filling cracks, resealing the surface, and ensuring proper drainage, can help extend its life. For gravel driveways, regrading to fill in uneven areas every year or two is recommended.

The choice between asphalt and concrete depends on your priorities, budget, and climate.

Concrete is generally more durable, lasting up to 50 years with minimal upkeep, and offers more customization options like staining and stamping, which can add more to a home's value. However, it is more expensive upfront and can be prone to cracking in cold climates where water can freeze and expand.

Asphalt is typically cheaper and quicker to install and is easier to repair. It performs better in colder climates. However, it requires more maintenance, including regular resealing, has a shorter lifespan, and can get hot and sticky in intense sunlight.

Ultimately, if durability and long-term value are key, concrete is often the better choice. If upfront cost and performance in cold weather are more important, asphalt may be preferable.

In terms of durability, concrete driveways can last more than 50 years when properly maintained, compared to the typical 30 years for an asphalt driveway. However, the durability depends on the climate, base material and thickness, and thickness of the concrete or asphalt used. The longevity of concrete or asphalt driveways also depends on how well it’s maintained and the amount of wear and tear it endures.

Sometimes, when people talk about asphalt driveways, they’re actually referring to asphalt concrete, which is a completely different compound. Asphalt concrete is asphaltic cement combined with sand or grit. It is significantly more lasting and durable than regular asphalt but also much more expensive. If you’re considering using asphalt concrete, ask an asphalt company for their expert opinions.
