"There was a misunderstanding on the days to begin the job because Lonnie arrived a day early. Lonnie arrived the next day on time with all the equipment for painting except the paint. He is professional and friendly. I purchased the red paint for my doors. I am happy with the result. I would recommend J Edwards Construction to anyone needing a professional painter."

"Mike and Crystal were very professional from the first phone contact through the completion of the work. They showed up on time, their work was neat and they worked very efficiently. My windows were in pretty bad shape. They really took their time and prepped them very well which showed in the finished product. When asked to redo or touch up anything it was done without question. In the end we received a very good paint job on a timely basis and at a competitive price. I have already recommended Mike's Painting to others in my neighborhood and would use him again for future painting needs.

"Oh my goodness they are the absolute best! I would choose Christian and his team every single time. I moved alone across the country & he just about saved me. He painted my whole house- inside and out for a super reasonable price. I bought new doorknobs and he put them all on for me. His kindness, communication & efficiency really impressed me. I have many friends and family who have wanted his information because they are so impressed with his work. For as long as I live in NC, they will be my painters. You are in great hands when choosing them."

"Mr. Boykins arrived on time. He was very professional. He gave me an estimate on the phone a feeks prior to setting the actual date of the appointment. When he arrived I explained to him the different colors for the accent walls,  he smiled and began working right away. He painted each accent wall thoroughly and made sure I was happy with results before putting the paint away. The old hospital paint walls that I used to have now have a pop of color to cheer them up. I told Mr. Boykins that I will schedule with him again by the end of the month to get the rest of the walls done. He provided excellent customer service.

Interior Painting questions, answered by experts

Professional lead-paint abatement companies use a variety of methods to remove lead-based paint, depending on each particular situation. Some of the most common methods include:

  • Total removal: $8–$17 per square foot

  • Demolition and replacement: $1,000–$15,000 per project

  • Encapsulation: $4 per square foot

  • Enclosure: $10 per square foot

  • Chemical stripping: $10–$17 per square foot

You can apply waterproofing over paint, but you won't get as much protection as you would if you painted the surface with a waterproof paint from the get-go. Not all waterproofing methods are compatible with painted surfaces, and they may not adhere well. This is especially true if the paint is glossy, old, or flaking. Waterproofing sealers are primarily meant to be applied to porous surfaces, like concrete, wood, or brick.

Yes, you can paint over old exterior paint, but success depends on the condition of the existing paint and proper surface preparation. If the previous coating is in good shape (not cracked, peeling, or flaky), you can paint over it with less prep work. However, for the most durable and professional-looking results, follow these key preparation steps:

  • Clean the Surface: Thoroughly clean the exterior to remove all dirt, grime, and mildew. A pressure washer can be very effective for this.

  • Scrape and Sand: If the old paint is peeling, cracked, or flaky, you must scrape off all loose paint. After scraping, sand the surface to create a smooth, even base for the new paint. Sanding is especially important for wood siding.

  • Apply Primer: Using a quality exterior primer is highly recommended. It ensures the new paint adheres properly, improves durability, and provides a uniform finish. If you are painting a lighter color over a dark one, a tinted primer will help cover the old color more effectively.

Some brands offer paint-and-primer-in-one products for convenience. Taking the time to prepare the surface properly will not only increase your home's curb appeal but also help protect your siding and extend its life.

It’s a good idea to sand your porch before painting. This will remove loose or chipped paint and debris, and give you a cleaner surface so that your new paint goes on smoothly. But if the existing surface is in good condition, it’s not necessary to sand your porch before you paint.

If your home was built before 1978, there’s a chance that any paint on your hardwood floors could be lead paint—especially if it was already there when you moved in. Because lead is toxic, hiring a licensed pro to remove it is mandatory. The average price for professional lead paint removal ranges from $1,500 to $5,300 and depends on the scope of the project.
