"There was a section of vinyl caulk that was installed between the backsplash and the counter. The caulk was old and deteriorated and became dis colored and did not cure. Since the problem was caused by the initial installation, Granite Transformation should have corrected the work under warantee. In fact, they want to charge me a service call. Since they did not stand behind their work, I would not recommend them. I had to call them back to repair plumbing problems, They failed to plug in the refrigerator completely. Beautiful job, but for &7,000 they should stand behind their work

"My overall experience with Ed Martel was pleasant and professional. He communicated with me well and made sure he knew what I wanted before he left with the furniture. I wanted to keep the character of the piece (like the chew marks from me teething on the leg - embarrassing, but true!) and the perfume bottle marks she left out for all of us kids to sample.
The piece had lost some of its color over the years, and I wanted the richer hue from my memory restored. The mirror had some "spots" in it like old mirrors do, so I opted to replace the mirror. The chair's upholstery needed replacing as well, and he asked me to either choose a fabric and deliver it to him in a week or so or he could refer the finished chair to an upholsterer he knew. I decided to choose the fabric.
Mr. Martel called me a few days into the project and said it was going well. He sent me some pictures of the work in progress to make sure the deeper hue was what I'd envisioned.
In about another week, he called to tell me he was finished with the piece and sent a few pictures through email. I was so excited about receiving the furniture that I cancelled a previous appointment so he could deliver that afternoon!
The work is flawless. The piece is beautiful. It feels like my great-grandma could sit at it again, daubing on her blush and spritzing her perfume. I absolutely, positively LOVE Artistic Furniture Refinishing and can't wait to find a reason to call them again!

Cabinet Refacing and Refinishing questions, answered by experts

To prepare for cabinet refinishing or refacing, it’s important to remove all items from the cabinetry in question. In addition, clear any clutter from the room, whether it's the kitchen, bathroom, or otherwise. Be sure to have additional cabinet materials, such as cabinet hardware, lights, and glass inserts, ready for your cabinet installer to use.

Finally, if you have pets, ensure they are in a safe, separate location away from your cabinet professionals, who will bring materials in and out of your home during the process.

The vinyl finish on thermofoil cabinets makes them durable and scratch-resistant, especially compared to painted cabinets. However, if they do get deep scratches, it can be challenging to fix, and you may be unable to repair them.

Yes, you can replace just your cabinet doors, assuming the structure of the cabinets themselves is sound. Replacing only the doors can save you money when renovating your cabinets. New cabinet doors cost $300 on average, but range from $200 to $400, depending on the material and size. Keep in mind that replacement doors made of materials like fiberboard and engineered wood are less expensive than wooden cabinet doors.

Any of your garage shelves should be able to hold heavier loads, but it’s best to place heavier items on middle shelves. The only reason for this is to prevent injury—lifting heavy loads from down low requires squatting or bending over, which can lead to back injury, and lifting heavy loads off of high shelves in the garage can be especially dangerous if you drop them.

Kitchen remodeling can be as minor as a new coat of paint or as significant as a kitchen expansion to add more space. Some common things to include in a kitchen remodel include:

  • New appliances

  • Fresh flooring

  • New paint on walls or cabinets

  • Luxury countertops

  • New or custom cabinets

  • Lighting fixtures

  • New cabinet hardware

  • Changes in electrical or plumbing locations

  • New sink and faucet
