Customers say: True professional

"Joe and his daughter, Abby, did an expert job of removing popcorn from our spare bedroom ceiling, repairing water damage with new wallboard where necessary. Joe first covered the entire room with plastic lining, including the carpeted floor. This prevented the dust, the debris from popcorn removal and fallen insulation from dirtying the room. Once the repair / replacement was completed, the team applied mud where necessary and lastly painted the ceiling. This job lasted approximately two and a half days. Joe had collected most of the loose insulation and placed it in a large garbage bag and later went in our attic to redistribute it. He was very friendly, reliable, kept to his estimated cost and time for the job and was always on time. I will not hesitate to hire him again to do more ceiling repair and / or popcorn texture removal."

"Shane and his crew are professional, experienced and pay close attention to details. They were accommodating when extra work was needed to repair sheetrock on three tray ceilings or ask for an extra coat on walls. They are also experienced in sheetrock work and replaced two ceiling areas while on the project. Whether it is one room or a whole house, give Shane an opportunity to submit a competitive bid, you will be glad you did!"

Popcorn Ceilings questions, answered by experts

Under the right circumstances, removing your popcorn ceiling can have a favorable ROI exceeding 80%. The ROI depends on several factors, such as the size of your ceiling, where the texture is located in your home, the state of the housing market, and whether the ceiling contains asbestos.

When steaming falls short, consider utilizing a commercial texture remover tailored for popcorn ceiling removal. Adhere closely to the manufacturer's guidelines and conduct a preliminary test in an inconspicuous spot to verify compatibility with your ceiling. This specialized product offers an alternative solution for stubborn texture removal, potentially streamlining the process while safeguarding the integrity of your ceiling surface. Remember, products like these may be high-VOC, so wear protective gear.

After removing any type of skylight, you have a few options for the ceiling. You can patch and repair the ceiling to match the surrounding area, ensuring a smooth and seamless finish. Alternatively, you can install a light fixture or a ceiling fan in place of the skylight to maintain functionality and enhance the room's lighting and ventilation. Ultimately, the choice depends on your preferences and the specific requirements of the space. No matter what you choose, you’ll probably want to call in a pro to help.

Popcorn ceilings can be relatively easy to keep clean with regular maintenance. Avoid exposing it to smoke if possible—popcorn ceilings tend to collect stains from smoke, including those from cigarettes or cooking. With proper care, you can clean your popcorn ceiling anywhere from every six months to a year—or as needed.

If your popcorn ceiling is asbestos-free and you are ready for a new look, painting is an option. As long as there is no flaking or other wear, a new coat of paint might be just the thing to refresh the old ceiling. The best way to paint a popcorn ceiling is to use either a paint sprayer or a thick roller to cover the popcorn texture fully. (Do not forget to dust it off beforehand!)

“Note that if you eventually want to remove the popcorn ceiling, a painted ceiling is a labor-intensive job to remove and will cost more,” says Bob Tschudi. “Once painted, the process of removing the popcorn ceiling requires physical scraping as opposed to a spray-and-scrape approach. It’s very labor-intensive, and thus more costly.”
