"Hargrove's did a good job of removing and replacing the roofing on my home. They arrived at the scheduled time and were completed in 2 days. They were not as organized at the start as I would have liked, ie not enough tarps to protect Heating and Air units and to control trash, but were efficient and steady so the work went well.  Overall, I was satisfied with the job and would use Hargrove's again for any home improvements. The crew was pleasant to deal with and worked hard to make the job go smooth.

"In September of this year my wife and I bought a home near Cedar Mountain. We had
a few things that we wanted to get done to the house before we moved in. From
Florida we researched contractors as well as through friends in our new
community. I was not prepared for the casual attitude of many of the workmen I
spoke with. Out of all of them, there was only one who showed up and did the
work as promised, Mr. Wade Morris. Despite having to drive and extraordinarily
long way to our home, Wade arrived every morning at 8:30 until the job was
done. I had to return to Florida but I left Wade a key to finish up. When I got
back to NC I was pleased to find the house clean and the work done to a high
standard of professionalism. Little extras, like painting the bedroom
baseboards (which was not part of our agreement) made me appreciate Wade and
Gaye all the more.

Custom Home Builders questions, answered by experts

When planning home building in Cherokee, you must navigate specific tribal regulations and obtain cultural preservation approvals before disturbing any ground. Proximity to the national park requires environmental buffers and wildlife considerations. Heavy seasonal tourist traffic will impact your material deliveries and contractor access. Furthermore, recent NC storm recovery efforts constrain contractor availability, so you must verify current processing timelines and updated floodplain maps with local authorities.

Helpful?

To determine if your property is a good candidate for home building, first verify your land jurisdiction. Cherokee properties fall under either Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians authority or county regulations. You must also evaluate the steep mountain slopes, which require geotechnical assessments. Check local flood maps for river exposure. Finally, inspect older NC structures for lead paint or asbestos before starting any major renovations.

Helpful?

The existing conditions of your Cherokee property dictate your entire home building approach. Shallow mountain soils require percolation tests to ensure proper septic system placement. You must confirm your current utility connections to determine whether tribal or private authorities govern your upgrades. Additionally, assess large hardwood trees, as their deep root systems complicate foundation excavation. Screen the soil for contamination if the lot had previous commercial use.

Helpful?

The heavy annual rainfall in NC demands strict moisture management during home building. You must install proper vapor barriers and drainage systems to protect exposed materials. Schedule concrete pours carefully to avoid freezing winter temperatures. Summer thunderstorms also create safety hazards for exterior work. Plan your foundation and roofing projects for late spring or early fall to avoid weather delays and severe tropical storm risks in Cherokee.

Helpful?

Start your home building preparation by confirming your exact land jurisdiction to secure the correct permits. Submit your project description for tribal historic preservation review immediately to prevent timeline setbacks. Commission a site survey to address steep slopes and flood zones. Confirm all water and sewer connections with Cherokee utility providers. Finally, schedule your exterior NC construction during the dry spring or fall months to minimize weather disruptions.
