"the pull-chain on the Fan/light had broken off just at the point it emerged from the fixture, (because of the wobble) and a replacement at that point would not go thru the hole. he drilled out the hole so the chain connection would pass thru without problem. I had tried to put a dimmer switch on a 3-way switch and the whole thing ceased to function. once the correct switch was in, everything worked as it should. done in under an hour, had everything he needed for the job. cost included a replacement switch. pleasant and professional. reasonably priced"

"Installed a new wireless module in existing fan. Required reading a schematic diagram, diagnosing a faulty reversing module and climbing an 18 ft ladder. Worked perfectly when done."

"It went wonderful. They were fabulous. He did two things for me on two different occasions. One was ceiling fan then he came back and he hung a chandelier for me. He was very professional. He explained everything, very polite and he came on time. He did absolute wonderful work. I have not had any other to use him since a year and a half ago. I can't say enough good. He was great."

"I needed to have an EV hookup installed after relocating to Asheville. Looking Glass Electric was recommended to me by a local couple I met while out on the town one night. I called Looking Glass Electric the next day, and Ben was able to fit me in and provided a fair estimate for me that week. I went ahead and okd the work, and he was back just days later for the install. You can tell from the result that a level of professional care was taken during the install. Everything looks great and perfectly blends into the setting like it is always been there. My next project is adding a hot tub, and I will be going straight back to Ben and Looking Glass Electric for my needs there! Cannot recommend them enough!"

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

No, a ceiling fan doesn’t have to be wired to a switch, but it’s often more convenient. You can use the included pull chain if your ceiling isn’t too high or install a remote module later, as they are a cheap, easy-to-install option that’ll let you control both the fan and light fixture.

There are several telltale signs to let you know that your ceiling fan needs servicing or replacement. For instance, if it’s wobbling, rotating too slowly, or if your ceiling fan is making noise such as squeaks, buzzes, and thumps, it’s time to have it looked at by a professional. Not only may it indicate a potential problem with the fan itself, but it could also signal a red flag that it’s improperly assembled or there’s an issue with the wiring.

Ceiling fans are very often worth the investment because they improve comfort in your living space and help reduce utility bills. In the late spring and early fall—and even in the summer in some areas—homeowners with ceiling fans can often get away with open windows and fans, which can cut down on cooling bills and also reduce wear and tear on the HVAC system. Over time, ceiling fans can pay for themselves by saving you money on electric bills and air conditioner repair and maintenance.

If the fan doesn’t have a switch, connect the white wire from the ceiling to the white wire from the fan; connect the green wire to the ground wire; connect both black wires; and connect both blue wires. If yours has a switch, the white and green wires are connected the same way. However, connect the ceiling’s red wire to the light’s black wire and the ceiling’s black wire to the fan’s black wire.

The direction your ceiling fan spins helps create comfortable airflow in your home and can also help cut down on energy costs.

During summer, your ceiling fan should spin counterclockwise. This will push cooler air downward in a column and help lower your room’s air temperature. In the winter, set your ceiling fan to spin clockwise and at the lowest speed setting. This will pull cool air upwards, displacing the warm air that pools towards the top of your ceiling and bringing it down towards the floor.
