"The problem I had was with the furnace wasn't lighting.  They arrived quickly, which was a good thing.  The problem was eventually solved but it required four trips, 2 trips were necessary due to parts being ordered but the other two shouldn't have been.  Another problem with this vendor is trying to get price estimates from them once the problem is determined and then getting the bill in a timely manner."

"John Prater and team (Joe & Joseph) just completed pressure washing our roof, two-story house with walk-out basement, decks and porches, and two-car carport. We are very pleased with the work and would recommend Prater’s without hesitation; the house looks fantastic and our roof looks new! Additionally the communication from John was great- very unusual in our rural community. John called me in a timely fashion to come out and give an estimate and he arrived on time. After scheduling the work he and the crew showed up exactly when promised. So refreshing! We plan on using Prater’s for all future work and have already recommended to neighbors. Don’t bother researching, reading more reviews, etc. Call John Prater- you won’t regret it."

"We had many issues with our computer - primarily with the CD/DVD drive and iTunes. Jim eliminated over 700 viruses from our computer, which was just the beginning. There continued to be problems within the systems of the computer. Luckily Jim charges by the job and not by the hour because he worked a LONG time to make it all work.  He kept in touch with me and addressed each issue as it arose until the job was done.  He was professional and courteous and hung in there until I was satisfied he had addressed everything. I would highly recommend Jim and will definitely use his services in the future, as needed.

"Part of my disappointment with this provider may have been my overly high expectations, as I purchased a "Big Deal" coupon thinking this was for a whole house ductwork cleaning (after a kitchen renovation), which I have had done before by several other firms (usually costing about $350), and this was only to vacuum out the individual vents in each room -- only about 6 inches deep, which we regularly do when we vacuum, plus they vacuumed out the furnace box, which we do and my HVAC firm does each spring and fall, and it does not get very dirty since I have an electronic air cleaner and use special filters which I change regularly.
I also felt this firm used this opportunity to try and sell me more services (they wanted to disassemble my entire furnace box and electrical connections at that time to "clean it better" for several hundred dollars more, and I have had my HVAC firm for 30 years and they never tried to do something like that (they have always commented on how clean it was in there), plus this furnace was only 5 years old).
The work they did was OK, but the floor vents and furnace box were not that dirty.

Heating and Air Conditioning questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can put an AC unit on the roof of your home or commercial building. For proper installation, you’ll need to ensure the roof surface is flat, it’s accessible for maintenance and cleaning, and an AC installation pro agreed that your home is a candidate for package units. Don’t forget to consider the climate in your area, as homes that experience frequent tropical storms or hurricanes may not benefit from this type of system.

Yes, it’s important to turn off your AC sometimes to give it a break and prevent it from freezing up. If your AC runs all the time, your system’s parts will wear down quicker, which may mean that you need to replace it sooner. Plus, using your AC constantly uses more electricity and leads to higher energy bills.

A non-maintained AC is more likely to perform poorly, increase your energy bills, and undergo more severe issues like breakage and water damage. That’s why DIY cleaning or professional maintenance is recommended annually. Otherwise, you might end up paying more in the end than you would for annual service. You can purchase cheap AC cleaning kits if you prefer going the DIY route.

Yes, a mini split AC system can replace central air—and quite easily, too. Since mini splits don’t require ductwork, homeowners can convert their central air system to a mini split to save money and energy. Consult with an HVAC professional to learn more about the process of replacing your central air with a mini split.

There are several AC unit problems to troubleshoot, but luckily you can identify them by keeping a close eye on your system. Look out for the following signs that your AC needs repair:

  • Unusual noises during operation

  • AC unit blows warm air

  • AC unit doesn’t come on or turn off with temperature changes

  • Strange odors come through the vents

  • AC unit cycles on and off rapidly

  • Indoor air is more humid or less comfortable than usual

  • AC unit keeps tripping your breaker

  • Fan in the outdoor compressor doesn’t operate when the AC is on
