"Stephen was professional, on time, helpful in decision making without being pushy, communicative and in good spirits despite the snow and cold. The finished product was better than we had hoped for when we first contemplated having to replace our deck. Yay!"

"Mountain top Enterprises got back to me very timely. They were on time, go getters that got the job done. There were some alterations ,upgrades that needed done and they troubleshooted it perfect. They fixed the well leak, added a pressure valve and even helped get my sprinkler system on. Hats off to them. It was a little more expensive than the quote but well worth it."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can build a deck around a fire pit, as long as it is safely enclosed, meets code requirements, and is at least 15 feet away from your home. You’ll want to ensure you have a heat-resistant barrier between the fire pit and your deck to prevent any structural damage and fires. A galvanized ring surrounded by pavers, brick, or stone makes for a beautiful, safe, and sturdy design.

It is recommended to clean your deck once or twice a year to prevent the accumulation of dirt, debris, mold, and mildew. The ideal times for cleaning are in the spring and fall. A spring cleaning removes grime that has built up over the winter, preparing your deck for summer use. A fall cleaning washes away messes from summer activities, preventing them from setting into the wood over the winter. The exact frequency can depend on factors such as how often the deck is used, its exposure to pollen, and whether salt was used on it during the winter. Regular cleaning helps protect the wood and its finish from damage.

Yes, but ensuring the deck has a solid foundation with adequate footings is critical before building, as the weight of a sunroom will put significant pressure on the structure below. Even if your deck is properly constructed, it may not be able to handle the extra weight. While some basic, lightweight, prefabricated sunrooms can sit on a deck with a strong existing foundation without additional supports, in many cases, the foundation and joists will need reinforcement. It is always best to have a structural engineer perform an inspection to evaluate the deck's quality and structural integrity. A professional can help you decide if reinforcement is sufficient or if it's better to tear down the deck and start over.

Yes, you can draw your own deck plans in many cases. However, you must know your local building codes and be familiar with carpentry principles. Even then, it's always best to run your plans by a professional contractor with experience building decks, whether you choose to DIY some of the build or not.

Floating decks are a cost-effective and versatile option, but they come with some compromises. Since they sit on smaller footings instead of being deeply anchored, they’re more likely to shift over time, especially in areas with heavy rainfall or freeze-thaw conditions. Their low-to-the-ground design makes them more susceptible to moisture buildup and potential water damage.
