Manzo Enterprises is an independent contracting business. A lot of the work the owner does himself, and he has been working in the Flathead Valley for almost 15 years. I, Francisco, (owner) will come and place a bid on the job instead of working by hourly wages. Jobs that include a lot of materials require 1/2 payment up front and second 1/2 upon completion of job. Jobs that are primarily labor require payment upon completion of job. I can provide proof of insurance and workman's comp. exemption when requested.

Mulch and Topsoil questions, answered by experts

Yes, you can put topsoil over sand to encourage grass growth. The topsoil will help to improve water retention and promote grass roots’ development, making it a recommended step of the seeding process. Adding a layer of topsoil will provide additional nutrients to the sandy soil, helping the grass grow and remain healthy through many seasons.

Pea gravel comes in a variety of colors, including cream, white, black, gray, and brown being some of the most popular choices for homeowners. You can also find red, yellow, green, and even multicolor options for your landscaping needs. The price of pea gravel is about $350 for the typical home improvement project.

The difference between river rock and landscaping rocks is size, smoothness, and use. River rocks are smooth and flat, as if polished by water, and come in diameters between 1 and 8 inches. Landscape rock can vary in size from small pea gravel installations to car-sized boulders. However, landscaping and river rocks are interchangeable in many situations. River rock is best for pathways, walkways, garden bed mulch, water features, and planting accents, while small landscape rocks can serve as a walkway base, gravel playground areas, and filler between pavers.

Replace organic mulch every one to two years, depending on the variety. Wood chips and straw, for example, will last a couple of years, while grass clippings and pine needles need replacing every several months. Inorganic mulch—such as rock and rubber chips—can stay in place for up to four years, depending on erosion and general garden upkeep.

Yes, you can lay pea gravel directly on the dirt. First, dig a trench 2 to 6 inches deep the length and width of the area you want to cover. Plants and weeds will eventually grow through the pea gravel if you don’t lay down landscaping cloth.
