"We had the Schluter system installed in May and the tile installed shortly after. Both Candace and Derrick provided lots of information - were both very professional and gracious. Beautiful job on our new shower. Highly recommend!"

Bathroom before picture. The existing sink sticks out a couple of inches into the doorway.
A functional sink was installed that did not come out into the doorway. A custom cabinet needed to be built for the plumbing.

"Did prett good work but not real good with communication. Wyatt has the knowledge needed for our roofing needs, but you may have to keep on him to get things done in a timely manner. I guess everyone in the valley is very busy and just need reminders so they don't forget. Overall I would recommend with the previous thought kept in mind."

Small jobs welcome

"Herman did an excellent job repairing both deeply and lightly cracked plaster and adding new drywall in my old house. The finished walls and ceilings are smooth and beautiful - totally transformed by Hermanâ s skilled workmanship. Hermanâ s carpentry skills are an added bonus, and I appreciated his being able to easily extend a soffit and doorway so that there were no unnecessary delays."

Ceramic Tile questions, answered by experts

When choosing tiles for a shower floor, avoid highly porous tile materials, like those with a water absorption rating over 7%. Don’t use non-vitreous tiles, or tiles fired at low temperatures, because they will absorb more water. If you use a highly porous tile in the shower, the tiles can wear down faster, meaning they’ll need to be replaced much sooner.

Thinset mortar is the best adhesive for ceramic tiles on concrete. It is easy to work with and has a slower dry time than mastic or epoxy mortars. This longer dry time gives the installer more time to adjust tiles, which is especially useful for DIYers who may not have tile installation experience. It can also be built up to help level any depressions or gaps in the concrete subfloor.

The difference between floor and wall tiles is that floor tiles generally have higher strength and porosity ratings than wall tiles. Wall tiles are typically weaker and more likely to crack or become damaged under sustained pressure like high foot traffic.

For this reason, avoid using wall tiles on floors and vice versa.

Generally speaking, it is better to cut tile wet when using a fast-moving wet saw to reduce dust and chipping. However, tile can be cut dry when using just about any cutting tool. Dry cutting will result in a bigger mess and may increase the risk of chipping or cracking, but if you’re just making small cuts, dry cutting is a safe and viable option. Cutting dry also means you can apply tile grout sooner, so it’s better for rushed projects.

Porcelain is a relatively affordable, mid-range countertop material. It typically costs between $50 to $70 per square foot.

Compared to quartz, porcelain is slightly more affordable, as quartz generally ranges from $50 to $200 per square foot. However, lower-quality, builder's grade quartz can be similar in price to porcelain.

Compared to granite, the price can be similar, depending on the quality of the stone. While granite slabs can range from $50 to $200 per square foot, you can find lower-end granite in the same price range as porcelain. High-end granites will cost significantly more.

Porcelain is generally more expensive than laminate, acrylic, and ceramic, but less expensive than high-end slate, concrete, and marble. A key benefit is that porcelain does not require sealing, which reduces long-term maintenance costs.
