Based out of Bozeman, Montana we have over 15 years of experience in both residential and commercial sprinkler system installations and landscape design & installations. Customer service and quality product is the foundation at Gallatin Green.

"Bret was awesome! He was able to trouble shoot my issue quickly. He recommended a new control box because mine was simply out dated and worn out. We gave him the go ahead so he installed it, plumbed and wired the box in under an hour! After installing he went ahead and programed my zones for me. Also walked me threw everything Id need to know with detail. Bret was very friendly and professional. If I need any more sprinkler service I know he is my go to guy!"

Lawn Irrigation questions, answered by experts

Lawns can be high maintenance, and therefore require regular spending if you’re not up for doing certain lawn care tasks yourself. But you can save time and money on lawn maintenance by mulching, composting, and planting species native to your area, so they keep alive with less ongoing TLC from you.

The best time to aerate a lawn is when there's plenty of moisture in the soil, which is the fall or spring seasons. However, keep in mind that lawn aeration isn't very effective when there has been a long period of heavy rain, as the excess water can potentially damage the lawn in the aeration process. Wait until your lawn is predominantly dry to start the aeration process to ensure best results.

If your lawn and general landscape are struggling, consider calling a local landscape specialist to suggest lawn amendments, local plants, and hardscape changes to boost the long-term health of your outdoor space. While you may be able to take on small projects yourself—such as reseeding your lawn or testing the soil—a professional can help you build a plan to bring a struggling yard back to life quickly.

Although core aeration is overall a better method of aerating a lawn, spike aeration can still be helpful, especially if you have a smaller yard or are only trying to work on a specific problem area. Because spike aeration is so accessible thanks to its lower cost and easy DIY tools like aerator shoes, it can still be worthwhile for some gardeners.

There are several ways to decompose yard waste quickly. The first step is to move all debris into a compost bin or pile. From there, microorganisms, bacteria, and insects will break down the yard waste into compost. To speed things up, shred the waste into smaller pieces, add live worms to the pile, or introduce nitrogen-rich compost accelerators like grass clippings, coffee grounds, and manure. Turn the compost over every few days. This process, called aerating, allows oxygen to get in and accelerate decomposition.
