We started Dirtman Sprinklers here in Missoula 19 years ago! Over the years we've installed 1500 underground sprinkler systems, and continue to proved service to 1300 customers. We have a great crew and can insure our work is done right, and in a timely manner. Our office is located across from the mall at 1852 South Ave West.

Ibey's started in 1990 as a 2-man sprinkler business. Ernie Ibey, father and founder, started the company with his son Chuck. It was a venture established after Ernie's retirement from teaching. In June 1994 Ernie retired from the sprinkler business as well and his eldest son, Tim, took over working in the business. To this day Ibey's is a family owned and run business where Chuck and Tim can be seen working on projects with the crews. They are joined by sister Dolly the office manager and her husband Fred who serves as the General manager. We are committed to our friends and neighbors of the greater Missoula area. Before starting any digging project, you must call 811, the national “call before you dig” hotline. Speeding up grass seed germination is possible, but it requires quite a bit of extra work and commitment. Keeping the soil moist is key, but here are a few other tried-and-true methods for growing your new grass as quickly as possible:

  • Mist grass up to eight times per day to keep the soil moist.

  • Purchase a moisture-retaining seed coating for your grass seeds.

  • Amend soil that is compacted or in the wrong pH range.

  • Choose the right grass seed for your area’s climate and soil conditions.

  • Avoid planting on windy days or during periods of extreme rain or drought.

If your lawn has some lumps and bumps, yes, aeration can help—although it may also be beneficial to take on other steps, like irrigation, fertilization, and dethatching (also known as scarifying). You can also use a power rake to physically break up the bumps in your lawn, which can help you achieve a more even look.

It depends on the current health of your lawn. Liquid aeration takes longer to work, but the results are longer lasting. Since you can apply the liquid solution several times during the course of the growing season, the results are cumulative. Core aeration, on the other hand, will offer quicker benefits but they will diminish sooner, right along with the soil plugs left behind.

Don't pick up or dispose of aeration plugs. They will break down by themselves in one or two weeks. Rainfall will speed this up, as will watering the lawn. Mowing helps, but don't mow the grass too soon post-aeration. It's unusual that the plugs would remain after three or four weeks, but mowing and raking will break them down by that point.
