"The tub is wonderful! Installation of the tub was ok except for the widening of the bathroom door. The door trim was wrong and the door itself was not straight. The threshold was not installed at all. Paid an additional $700 to get the door rehung."

"My experience here was very pleasant. Dealing with other renovation companies, I was a little hesitant on even considering going forward with getting my shower updated. The call center girls were a HUGE help! They talked me through the whole process and reassured my concerns considering the fact that I am on a fixed income. Mr. Mike came out and was so easy to talk to, he sat down with me, designed my shower with me and went over financing. SOLD! lol.. Overall, I’m happy with my experience thus far, just hoping my installation goes just as smooth. will update my review later."

"Mike Saia returned our call within 3 minutes after we called on a Saturday morning. He and his son were at our house within an hour. Three hours later we had a new hot water heater and we’re up to code. The service was excellent and very professional. We highly recommend Saia for your plumbing needs. Danny and Judy Nodurft"

Bathtub Replacement questions, answered by experts

While Medicare will pay for some bathroom modifications, it won’t pay for all modifications done to help make the room more accessible for older adults. Plus, the improvements must be approved in advance, or they won’t cover the upgrade. Check well in advance of construction if you have coverage for grab bars, walk-in tubs, wider doorways, higher toilets, and more.

The plumbing industry has standardized the sizes for bathtub drains. They are 1 1/2 inches wide to fit all standard bathtubs from 14 to 26 inches deep. The standard sizing is to ensure that the drain fits into the P trap, a special part of your piping that prevents sewer water from bubbling up into your home (yuck).

You can resurface or reglaze your bathtub, and it’s faster and less expensive than replacing a bathtub. Plus, replacing a bathtub is an extensive and intrusive process that requires wall repairs. Refinishing is an excellent option if the old one is in good working condition.

There are also options to install a bathtub liner over your existing tub. However, if you’re seeking a new bathtub with new features, you’ll likely want to replace your tub.

Technically, yes, you can put a shower on a Roman tub, but it's not common. The vast majority of Roman tubs are standalone models. Adding a shower would involve installing a ceiling-mounted curtain rod or a custom glass enclosure, as well as redoing the plumbing, making it neither easy nor budget-friendly.

The cost to replace a bathtub is $2,000 to $9,400. Whether you want to spruce up your bathroom or your existing bathtub is not functioning correctly, purchasing a new tub costs about $5,700 with installation. Prices depend on the type and size of the tub.
